I think the growth is very slow now. It ticks over only when 0.1 M followers are added, which is 1 lakh. So it has been at 1.3 for her and 1.5 for PD for a long time now.

I follow this count as a hobby. To me if PD reaches 1.6 before Aru makes 1.4, then PD is doing better. If Aru gets to 1.4 while PD is still at 1.5, then old parity at the end of Idol is maintained, more or less.

It is an unusual situation. Usually the winner gets a big jump over the others. One reason is that the base is already very large and the idols have been performing for over 10 months.

The way we are seeing Arunita's popularity, I am increasingly feeling that the reports of 30 cr votes for PD v/s 3 cr for all the rest seem grossly exaggerated. I have a feeling that that #1 and #2 must have been close, but just outside the range of statistical significance where they could have passed it off as joint winners.

Just do the maths.

Everyone had 1300 votes to give if they fully participated. So 230, 769 people would have voted (say).

So, 210,000 would have voted for Pawan.

So, 20,770 people voted for the other 5 participants

So, maybe 5,000 people voted for Arunita. Out of that maybe 100 where IF contributors/readers.

And Arunita had actually pipped Pawan a few times.

Only blind PD lovers would even remotely believe this maths. But there are a lot of them around.

I was always sceptical of that number because I found that to be statistically improbable, and the more I see her popularity after the event the more I get convinced that it was BS.

But I never did the calculation the way you have done above. That puts it in real perspective 👍🏼

Every year the same tamasha happens, it is just getting worse. The only number ever announced in Idol is the total number of votes or voters. Even that was not done this year I think.

After a competition the winner takes all. Winners fans say what they like and losers fans sulk away to lick they wounds. There is no fight left. Anyone can say anything and it becomes god's truth to those who want to believe it anyway.
