Of course I had to resort to Google Translate. But this is fun. These last few weeks are really helping me brush up my Bangla knowledge that has become so rusty with disuse. Trying to understand the spoken word is easier than reading - somehow the script appears so much more difficult now than it used to in my youth 😆

Just for you PV_IFhandle. My attempt because you took the trouble. Not perfect but may make more sense. 😃

" Arunita Kanjilal, or Raka, a successful musician in Indian Idol, is a girl from this neighbourhood. This is where she grew up and spent her childhood.

She returned home the day before yesterday. The whole neighborhood is very happy. The tin roof of Samit Uncle's art school, the rubble strewn road to Kumudini Balika Vidyalaya, the small roadside grocery store next to her house - everyone wants to see her today. Everyone wants to get close to her.

They ask, wherever you go, you will never forget us will you? Never wipe us away from your mind?

Maybe that is right. The attachments of the heart cannot be erased. No name, face, childhood can be rubbed away. The real artist can't do it. Arunita is, therefore, the pride of Bangaon.

Let her walk the path of melody, the path where life's song plays, let her days walk down such a path. For such a new day Bengal and India's music world is waiting with hushed anticipation."

Just marking SamirM because Samit could easily have been Samir 🤣

Thanks, really appreciate it.

I love the word "sangeetshilpi" - I hadn't heard it before I heard Arunita use it in the school function where she says she is a very small "sangeetshilpi" and she really doesn't deserve all this adulation. I understood her meaning in the context of her speech, but just that I hadn't heard it before.

I now know that "shilpi" can mean artist in general, but so far I have always associated it with "sculptor." So "sangeetshilpi" sounds like a very unique and evocative metaphor to me.

Shilpa = Art

Shilpi = Artist

Wow! They have evidently put in effort to suppress the music and emphasize her vocals. And the vocals are just heavenly!

Thanks for sharing this.

As expected total disconnect between the thumbnail text and the actual interview.
