This thread confirmed a couple of things for me.

Public actually is megalomaniac enough to imagine a couple naming their kid with *intent* to troll said public. 😆 Talk about narcissism. Even Kareena has not exhibited this level of hyperego.

At the root of the anger at this fairly reasonable name is religion. For those who claim Ashoka's violence didn't have religious connotations: the fact he converted after Kalinga war should show you HE believed it had religious connotations.

No one should name thr kid Narendra or Modi then since he has the blood of so many Indian Muslims on his hands and is a bloody fascist. But no one will cry wolf there. Stop being obsessed with religion and let people breathe.

ashoka was at least 4 yrs into practicing Buddhism before kalinga war happened, source: ashokavadana ( earliest documented evidence on ashoka)

he killed monks of ajivika and jains even after kalinga war, warned others of turning against him (source:his own rock edicts)

Funny you say that, a Muslim woman in Uttar Pradesh named her child Narendra Modi, only to be hounded by her family and community to change it.
