Because she is an awful actress with zero talent
With that sort of film, the story does a lot of the work for you. Feels harder to mess up, generally speaking.
Because it was a fluke. The team involved with that film did not mess up and actually managed to extract a good performance out of her. But let's not pretend Sonam came to this industry to show off her amazing acting talent. Not.
Neerja's mom once said that her daughter was so lucky that everything she touched turned into gold. Well, it seems to have worked even after she passed away.

Why couldn’t Sonam repeat her Neerja success with other films?
Because it was a fluke.
Sonam Kapoor, I adore her, but she is NOT a talented actress. She can't even do basic elementary level stuff. Neerja somehow worked thanks to the director, and she was lucky enough to go through the motions at just the right level - and when we saw the film, people lost their minds and said she was great - in huge part due to not being a cringefest as usual.

I personally think Neerja isn't her only good acting.
She did well in Raanjhana, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Roh Aisa Laga ; Saawarya... and other movies.
I think the fact that she didn't chose the route people thought she would is why they think she didn't do well post-Neerja.
Instead she did a socially relevant movie with comic elements with Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte ; a successful romantic comedy with Kareena Kapoor ; another socially relevant movie in the form of a mock romcom with her father and Rajkumar Rao ; a cameo in a meme worrhy cameo in a controversed blockbuster...
I felt her her choices were nice if not conventional as she could have taken a safer route but then again, The Zoya Factor which was supposed to be one of the safest choice of the lot was the one that bombed and didn't impress anyone.
I don’t think she has a bad script selection like some of her movies do have decent script but her acting isn’t that good to justify the script that’s what i feel.
She is enjoying her life in London. Doing photo shoots for fashion brands. Thats her calling. As long as she doesn't open her mouth, and we don't have to hear her annoying voice, allzwell.

Leading A list actress who has given successes with all khans in pivotal roles. Not a single flop. Any guesses?
