Having said that, Mastani was mental and unlikeable with her ever-dazed-in-love eyes but Rani in KANK was much more irritating.

If you feel "obligated" to marry someone or drag out a relationship with someone and try to stick it out just because you feel indebted to them or their parents, you are already being unfair to them and to yourself and setting yourself up for failure. Her only moral obligation was HONESTY and she failed there.

And if your relationship/marriage isn't working out for you, have the integrity to rip the band-aid off like she does when she actually confesses to cheating in this scene.

How come she mustered up the courage for that conversation but couldn't tell him that the relationship wasn't working out for her while she was ahead?!

Because by then she was already caught cheating by Abhi’s dad and SRK character’s mom. The cheaters come out only when they are caught as in they need an external stimuli to make them confess to their immoral behavior.

I watched KANK like over a decade ago and remember it in bits and pieces. I didn't realize she was already caught cheating before that scene so I wrote whatever thoughts it sparked. He threw a fit but the world didn't come crashing down, now did it? So why the hesitance to just be honest and upfront all along?! Why did she wait till her back was against the wall to fess up?

What bothers me now is ... had they not caught her, was she gonna keep cheating behind his back? 🤔

And I also remember Big B's character getting a heart attack after he caught his DIL cheating To think that the girl you raised as your own daughter, was cheating on your son and not only betrayed his trust but yours too!! If she had considered them family since her childhood, she could have just been honest with them, I am sure they would have understood, but she was a coward!!

Yes, it happens all the time in real life.

I hate hate KANK but their cheating was dare I say organic. At least there was build up there. With KANK, I take into consideration that Rani couldn't have children and Abhishek resented her for that. They were incompatible. Honestly, SRK's character pissed me off more because he was plain bitter and took it out on his wife. It pisses me off but Rani was more digestible as a cheater than Deepika's Mastani's man chasing ways without rhyme or reason. She was more of a homewrecker because she went out of her way to get a married man while Rani wasn't looking to cheat.

I think it's easy to say that Dev and Maya should've taken a divorce with their respective spouses before starting their affair, but life is never that simple.

Dev had a kid. Divorce meant that kid would grow up without a father. Maya was burdened with the favors done to her by Rishi's father. Both definitely would've thought of taking divorce many times, but thinking about the kid and all the favors, stopped them from taking such a big life changing decision.

Life is complicated, and so are humans. Nothing ever happens so smoothly like we hope for.

They both thought it's better to sort out the problems in their marital life instead of going out looking for someone else.

Dev and Maya themselves weren't sure about their feelings. I give a Maya a pass because the reason of her marriage being a failure was Rishi's incompetence in bed. So if even she slept with Dev, it was to make sure that she really loves Dev and could have a good sex life with him, something which she never got with Rishi.

I wholeheartedly agree!

Kank would have been a gr8 film if kjo didn’t try to kjo it with all those songs and Rock n roll soniye nonsense

The entire point of the movie was if u marry for any other reason apart from love, this crap is what u risk running into

Ur not attracted to ur partner and no matter how much u try, u can’t get attracted to them or get n intimate with them …it sounds like absolute hell tbh but very much a possibility in “coerced marriages”

IMO, srks character was way more loathesome than Ranis…he had issues with his wife’s success and his failures and couldn’t cope / get counselling …wasn’t a gr8 dad either with the way he treated their son

both characters were inherently hurting, srk coz he couldn’t be a football player after the accident and didn’t like being in his condition , and ranis character for not having any feelings for her “seemingly perfect” husband and even being unable to conceive children ( additional guilt from that )

These aren’t characters that are meant to be idolised or perfect or “omg so cute”…it’s just showing how seemingly good people with no intention of harming anyone, can make horrible, hurtful decisions when they are in pain

It dosent justify or vindicate them…it just shows how easily people can become that way when faced with the life the don’t like and are insecure on top of it

Priety and abhishek forgiving them made sense since they were always shown to be secure and confident people…even if they got cheated on, they had the maturity to move on and lead a decent life without holding grudges ….they were better ppl than the other two….but it’s not necessary that nice people always have the happier ending and not so nice people are meant to suffer …life’s always been unfair and messy

And “ending up with a partner” is not always a happy ending …like priety says to rani “try living with him u will know what punishement it is”

Priety and abhishek got a much “happier ending” if u ask me …they don’t have to deal with srk and ranis toxic insecurities

I agree, KANK is the only KJo film that I think was conceptually interesting, but he ruined it with over-glamorization and all the ridiculous cheesy scenes and Sexy Sam jokes. Those things worked in his earlier movies because they were meant to be lighthearted, ridiculous films anyway - even KHNH, despite a tragic ending, was a feel-good film. KANK, on the other hand, had an intense plot and it needed an intense execution. It needed to be something like Astitva or Silsilsa. One moment you had SRK and Rani having a serious discussion about their marital problem, and next moment you had them singing to some cheesy song sung by Alka Yagnik pictured in a hilariously matching-colored-suits-and-sarees, one moment you feel for the characters, next moment you have sexy sam cracking some ridiculous jokes. It led to a failure of tone; some directors can mix genre well, but Kjo isn't the one to do it well. If only he gave it a serious treatment, this could have been one of his best.

More than that, I don't mind them cheating for whatever reason it maybe. Films are films and I can separate the art from the aesthetics. So I disliked KANK not for the subject matter, but for the treatment.

Instead of having topics about female homewreckers, why not for once have a topic on heroes who cheated? How about whether SRK in KANK was hated more or Abhishek in HMBPKH?

Like I said in my previous post, SRK's character pissed me off more because there were no issues in his marriage. He was bitter, couldn't move on from his past glory, and was unmotivated. Rani's character I could sympathize with somewhat.
