What a beautiful post to wake up to Juwi!
First thing I have read this morning so thank you for the good start!
"You have to view him from a new lens, because he surprises us each time.
Shaurya Sabherwal is not the every day male lead we see in ITV. He is different. He is a breath of fresh air"
These lines above that you have written in your post, this is everything!
I have said this before and I will keep saying it again and again Shaurya is not yet another run of the mill angry young man! He doesn't not conform to a checklist of how such MLs are usually written. He is layered in the most realistic sense and someone who is in touch with his human side and not just raging for the heck of it to hide behind his past! A few examples:
1. He does not take out his anger on Aastha and Shaan on anybody else, it is always directed only at them. He does not use his childhood abandonment as an excuse to stay bitter at the world or everyone around
2. If he was a run of the mill AYM that ITV is used to then he wouldn't have clarified to the police that Anokhi is SIAC's potential candidate student nor would he have done the decent thing by sending Makhan to get her to a safe place! This! He did this when he disliked her and didn't want her there if it was another typical AYM ML he would have ensured Anokhi is caught in the scandal or spends time behind the bars just to send across a message on who holds the power.
3. When Aastha and Shaan stand together for Anokhi he is jealous and hurt because this is what he had always wanted from his parents but had never received yet here they were doing it for a stranger! He channels his hurt by feeding a hungry mother-son duo and longing for the same because that is a void that nobody has been able to fill. The next day he doesn't nurture his resentment for Anokhi by working on actively making life difficult for her instead he once again decides to the right thing by ensuring that he wouldn't let her impact him!
4. The Riots scene wasn't just him ensuring Anokhi was safe, it was about him helping anybody he can along the way. This was a deliberate nod at what kind of a person he is, there was attention to detail in how exactly he was going to be portrayed here because I so many of us made posts here about this particular scene.
5. His expression when he realises that Anokhi had never called the press! He was genuinely guilty that he had misunderstood which yet again proved the fact that despite his initial prejudice and reservations he wasn't actively looking for a reason to hate/dislike her
6. Pursuing and rescuing a stranger, he went after the goons without knowing that it was Anokhi!
7.If Shaurya Sabarwal was a run of the mill AYM he would have been the one because of which Anokhi would have been stuck in the room during the ragging track ans he would have rescued her after a sudden "realisation" but that wasn't the case! If anything he teared up Anokhi hugged him in her trauma that just shows the extent of his empathetic side!
8. The fact that Shaurya has never been the cause of Anokhi's miseries, he has never set out to make her miserable except for making the admission process difficult and even there he tried to find ways within the system ans never did anything unethical. In fact when Anokhi says "I quit" there is no look of revelling in her misery or smirking at his victory, because her humiliation is not what he was looking for! He hadn't wanted that at all and the way he looks taken aback says it all!
9. The one time he actually made her miserable and broke her spirit was in the library scene, but his realisation was so organic and it didn't happen overnight and when the apology came it was a heartfelt one! These are the things that are never addressed properly or brushed off in other shows the way SAAKK dealt with it is why it continues to stand out for me as a gem of a show on ITV!
10. He doesn't get angry without reason, it could be a misplaced reason but there always is one! The aggression isn't romanticised in fact we have had moments where Shaurya actually has made effort to contain it and I think it'll get better by the time the show concludes!
Finally and most importantly! There's nobody like our Shara bear ❤️
I repeat and will never get tired of doing so because his virtues do over power his vices, I am here to acknowledge the layers and watch his growth because that is what the story, premise of the shows and not put myself in a position of superiority and view him with a cynical lens and pass judgments on him even before his journey can culminate.
P. S a lot of things that Shaurya has done from the above list are prettty basic human and decent thing to do so yes I am not placing him on a pedestal for that but acknowledging the fact he is an ML who has been portrayed as being in touch with his emotional side and his past not being used as an excuse to show him as a mean, brooding hero who can get away with anything! He, for all his flaws at the end of the day is a man of principle! He may falter but not fall when it comes to dfferentiating between right and wrong!
