There is a place for both but BW isn't gonna lose anything. All OTT talent wants to move to theatrical movies eventually. People settle for streaming when it's all they can get or all their star power will sustain. Even Pratik Gandhi has moved to mainstream movies now that he's getting those offers. He has a movie coming up with Tapsee.

Streaming is basically for new talent, has-beens or people who never really got stardom but kept working steadily. 95% of the stuff on streaming is terrible too so it's not like it's any different from theatricals. On rare occasions, something like Scam 1992 will show up.

Go in the streets and ask any autowala if they can name any of them. That’s real stardom not PR made . These guys are not famous outside a very niche audience

one hit show and you calls it a stardom?

Saif Ali Khan was the one who got benefit the most among all, His career was in a very bad faze before Sacred Games happened. Pankaj Tripathi comes the next.

I agree established names do want to move to big screen.

But streaming is for talent which didn't get its due, not just new talent. *Has-been* is a strange term to use. Their talent dried up? Or did they age out of the youth-worship culture of Hindi cinema?

Also, if 5% of OTT is quality art, it is still 10X better than the ratio spit forth by mainstream Bollywood.

I can see this. Something like Bahubali or 83 or Gangubai or Uri on big screen, while KJo type movies go to OTT.

Their talent hasn't dried up but their stardom has. For example, you won't find many people willing to go buy tickets to see a Madhuri Dixit movie now unless she's playing a supporting role in a movie that's being held up by someone else. Producers won't risk money on her. In the earlier days, people in that position would just have to retire. Now streaming is a great option. On TV, people are not that picky. They will give a chance to almost anything and someone who is a known name is more likely to get viewers than a random unknown actor. I watch so much dumb stuff on Netflix that I would never pay for in the real world. Recently I watched a show with Masaba and Neena Gupta and it was pretty cute but I would have never paid to see it.

Now everyone and their mother can produce and act in shows and movies on Netflix and Amazon. The bar is much lower because people will try out anything when it's on TV in front of their faces. You can watch for 5 minutes and turn it off if it's not interesting. There is no commitment and nothing lost. Even the figures Netflix and Amazon release are a joke. If someone watched for 2 minutes, they consider it a view and then brag that this many people watched the movie. 🤣

Nope it does. Today it's all about Social media popularity. Even stardom of new stars like RS and Tiger and Varun is highly manufactured online. Even the masses are becoming slightly content oriented. OTT is a great way for an actor to establish his/her name in minds of people especially for outsiders who don't have fancy PR. Middle class India is becoming more and more tech savvy and once they get more exposed to better content the target market of Bollywood stars will drift away. In coming years you will see the change where longevity will matter not "stardom"
