Like many of us, I'm frustrated by and disappointed with how this current track is being handled on MHRW, in particular how the character of Pallavi is being shaped.

For all of us who love the tv-serial genre, we know that there will be tracks we love and tracks we hate---even in shows we consider superb. My experience is that when a good track comes along we forgive and forget the earlier bad track.

So I thought it might be diverting to create a space where we can talk about tracks as dynamic phases rather than doom & gloom. And it might be illuminating to shift the lens from WHAT is happening to WHY it might be happening. Writers don't go from brilliant one week to flawed the next.

I like the idea. Which topic do you want to discuss first?

Agree. I think its important to recognize the why for many tracks. The only reason i dont like this track particularly is bexause it seems out of place. An abortion or pregnancy and accusing 2 people of sleeping together is a pretty ridiculous way to proceed the track. Any number of possibilities could have happened instead with the same effect in my opinion. Plus, pallavi is being shown as a little dumb.

That being said i also understand writers want to create an insane level of drama to garner eye balls and this is what thry saw to do it. Plus pallavi has to be shown this stupid if writers make sure to follow through in the future and show pallavis transitio. In opening her eyes to her own innate biases towards mandhars family and hypocritical self persona. (In all honesty though i dont think writers are that intelligent).

I definitely understand the why. I just cant ignore the plain dumbness and cringe being shown either. The purpose of the track could have been established with a different misunderstanding in my opinion.

I was reflecting on the scene in which Pallavi is getting the silent treatment from Baba and Kaku (not very classy, fellows!)---and she said, (paraphrasing), "I've been accustomed to being maligned by the world outside and it was endurable because I knew that I could come home to this sanctuary where I was comforted and sheltered and respected."

Even Aayi and Mansi who are Pallavi's twin towers of support were quiet. Aayi spoke movingly after but initially nobody spoke up for her.

And it occurred to me that if I was a writer on MHRW and I'm looking ahead to an intense hate-marriage track, this is exactly what I would do.

I would have my heroine alienated from all her usual supports. I would make her believe that she has disappointed all those she loves. And THEN I would create a situation in which the only way to restore her family's happiness and her reputation is to marry a man whom she despises and who despises her Raghav.

So yes---Pallavi is not conducting herself in the manner we want to see at the moment, but it is being done for the story that will come ahead.

Sometimes character has to be (temporarily) sacrificed upon the altar of the next track :-)

Thanks, Sister, for joining the discussion.

I thought we could discuss how the current track is a set-up for the forced marriage track.

I think the issue here is why Pallu feels the need to restore their happiness especially after being accused of abortion by her in laws. They pointed fingers at her chastity and this should have broken her trust in them. But she's still tryo g to take the blame and ruining someone else too. She may have misunderstood it was RR but then why would he come to the house to clear her name?

I just dont understand hate marriages in itv. It's different if she is compelled to do it to protect her family, but it does not look like it from what we are seeing.

If writers wanted hate marriage so bad, it would have been better to have the vamp Anjali join forces with Sulo, and do a repeat of MMS scandal only this time with Pallu in the picture. This certainly would have created more sense and logic behind a forced marriage.

I agree, Sister.

I think you make a really good point. The almost random introduction of Pallavi as sexually promiscuous didn't work. And then accuse the only other eligible man in the room. Nah!

If the writers' intention was to create an estrangement between Pallavi and the people she loves, a better vehicle would have been to accuse her of mishandling shop funds. The writers' told us in the early episodes that Pallavi was hiding DSE's financial struggles. That would have been more credible.

Makes sense. I suspect the funds reveal will be underwhelming and a huge wasted opportunity.

I confess---I really love the trope of hate marriage. Such high dramatic value!

But I agree with you about the Anjali angle. That would have been so much more credible. Everyone would see the evidence with their own eyes and feel justified in judging her.

When she announced she was leaving Hyderabad, she said she was doing so because she didn't want to ruin Mansi's wedding. I wish she had said, "I won't remain in a house where people believe I'm reckless and promiscuous." Bas! But for story that would not work. Because then the writers have to show Pallavi leaving -or- they have to show the family rush to her side and placate her. The drama quotient fizzles.

Yes---The time to have the 'funds reveal' is now while she is still the daughter of the Deshmukhs. When she becomes the wife of Raghav Rao, the impact will be lessened.

The 'funds reveal' track would kill two birds with one stone. It would estrange her from the family and lead us nicely into the hate-marriage track:

The family is on the brink of discovering that the shop is going under. Pallavi fears this will kill Baba. Raghav steps in with money to save the shop. He does this with an agenda. Amma has told him that until he mends his ways she will not have anything to do with him. So garnering for himself a wife like Pallavi (whom Amma already adores) is a step in the right direction. If she marries him, he will make it so that the Deshmukhs never discover how close they came to losing everything. Done.
