I know this as my my dad got marriage certificate as soon as they got married and We too obtained marriage certificate.

Hubby’s birth certificate was not in English n my father in law went 10 times to get one in English.. n He was like kya nautanki hai.. 🤣

Seriously the laws are too much. 🤪

And the law for registering the marriage itself is a painful process. And the stupid rule to get it done like in a short span of 15-20 days and then even registering it in your Municipal registry.

Really...my Professors and my friends call me by my last name all the time. So it's not an issue here in India at least. Unless the tone is insulting.

It was something between insulting and with attitude n I told him My last name is from my father’s not mine. So call me by my given name.😆

Too many years have passed but I remember this incident 😆

exactly. Im gujarati so most gujjus are patel. not to hurt anyone's sentiments here but if my hubby has the most common last name that all gujjus have, not changing it 😆

Just a query...not from India

But in a previous forum, I was told that in documents a woman has to use her father's name or husband's name as a middle name

Are su vaat karo chu. Hu bi gujju j chu. Even I am Mehta and I quite like it. I don't want a common last name like Shah. Half the time people assume I am Shah anyways. Mehta is common too but not as much as Shah. So definitely not taking Shah. My Sister was lucky with Desai.

I know and we filled all the forms before our marriage and the lawyer came to get our signatures on our wedding day. Same with my parents.. 😆

Its too much.

Yes in middle name people usually put down their father's name. But if you don't want to that's okay. Can also use Mothers name. In Hinduism there is no concept of Middle name but since we like to follow the British system we are stuck with Middle names.
