overacting ki dukan - Page 2

I think every actor (male and female) ends up being overacting ki dukaan in one or the other part of his/her career. I will limit this post to female actors.

The frame might have been coined for Kareen Kapoor since MPKDH but there are others too who share that honor.

Shraddha over-acted all the way in Ek Villian, Sonakshi did it in OUATIM-Dobara and R Rajkumar. I might be in a minority but I feel Amisha was too OTT in the first half of Gadar . Alia was horrible and terrible in SOTY, DP was in her debut movie. I couldn't stand Aish either is Sarabjit and Jazba as I couldn't stand Anushka's overacting in ADHM. Sushmita Sen was too try-hard in Biwi No. 1.

But it is a real pain to watch the powerhouse performers going and being OTT. Ranis roles in Dil Bole Hadippa and Aiyya were the pure nightmares as was Vidya's in Ghanchakkar. I have not yet understood which part Kajol overacted in K3G, the part of a loud Punjabi girl in the first half or a mother and housewife in the second.

Seems Bollywood doesn't always give a scope of delivering a restrained and nuanced performance, especially in a masala and mass entertainers.

There is a need to play loud characters so I don’t think it’s fair to expect all performances to be subtle ...some do need to “scream” and take all the attention

Like I’d say bebo in jwm vs bebo in mpkdh is a good example of that

Jwm was a “loud” character done correctly

Mpkdh just was incredibly weird 😂😍

KJo asked Kajol to be loud and Punjabi. She didn't want to but finally succumbed to his wishes. I remember her mentioning that in the Making of the film interview at that time.

MPKDH was the kind of weird Sooraj Barjatya wanted. He wanted OTT and his actors gave it to him. Everyone but AB Jr was directed to act to the rafters - including the cartoon parrot and the dog.

I don't get what he was going for but you can't say it's not unique.

Srk generally and more specifically in Kjo movies! My gawd, LOL As an experiment watch the K3G clip (the autoplay modal thingy when you click on show more) on Netflix without sound and you’ll see the hilarity and the atrocity.. overacting ki dukaan personified! It’s also extremely hilarious😆

Try watching 80-90% of BW movies on mute and you’ll see the real meaning of over-acting ki dukan. My favourite is the black and white movies. Lord all Mighty! Those actresses and actors of that era sure knew how to use and move those facial muscles. 😆

Mein Prem Ki Dewaani Hoon and Khushi is another symbol of horror.

Perhaps ur rite..saif and Karisma had glimpses of this annoying hyperactive thing going on in hum saath saath hai

Apparently sb dosent believe in normalcy...ur a hyperactive buffoon or a reserved socially awkward geek...no in between

The closest normal characters were got were sallu and madz/bhagyashree in Hahk and mpk
