The mutation is only making it spread faster or the way it affects people as well ? Is it more serious than the original covid 🦠 ?

Hi Honey, I am from UK. Going to miss watching BB after work is over 😬 I only recently got hit by Covid and now recovered. And that is despite being very careful and not going anywhere without mask. The new variant is more contagious it seems. So please all exercise caution.

Glad that u recovered .. Take care

Thank you Banu šŸ¤— I was more shocked when I got positive result because I was so sure I was careful. But science is smarter than we are. Different people experience various levels of symptoms. So for the sake of everyone in our households please all be as safe as possible.

Thank you Maya šŸ¤— Yes, unfortunately the new variant is 70% more contagious than the previous one. That is a very scary statistic.

From what I’ve read so far the new variant only spreads faster but the symptoms are the same. But sometimes I feel the officials hold back on saying some things to avoid panic. Only a few years down the line we will know the full damage. Not to create conspiracy theories 😬

Thank you Honey šŸ¤— Yes post Christmas/New Years has been a very bad time for UK. I haven’t even used public transport in months, and only go grocery shopping. The governments everywhere have been prioritising the economy over the pandemic and are now facing the repercussions of it.
I got a big shock seeing videos of Master movie director/crew members coming out of a first day show in a packed theatre. The director isn’t wearing a mask also 😲 I don’t know what message they are trying to send the public.

Like Ayesha said so far the mutation is known to have a higher spread rate without impact on the severity of the disease. However, I do agree with her that we are not getting all information. If only China was transparent when it was first detected we may have avoided a pandemic.

The mutation is in the spike protein of the virus ( the component that the virus use to attach to our cells for attack)...the mutation offer a better compatibility for the virus to get attached to our cell compared to the previous strain. They have stated the mutation will not affect the vaccine efficacy. The vaccine is made to target spike proteins so mutation in spike proteins may have an impact. However, the healthcare experts are saying since the virus has many spike proteins the vaccine will be able to target sufficient quantity of the unmuted spike proteins to work. There is no evidence so far so we have to wait and see the impact of mutated strains on the vaccine. They may withhold information right now to not discourage vaccination.
