I think he did resent her popularity, though there are a lot of media pics where they seem happy. The show depicted it as though the marriage was doomed from the start and that might be slightly inaccurate because Charles did give up Camilla for a few years.
Josh O'Connor was soo good as Charles too, and I'm glad I'm finding so many here who love Emma Corrin's portrayal of Princess Di. She nailed it!
Both Josh & Emma did a fantastic job of portraying the royal doomed couple.
I think Terra nullius was the episode which portrayed the crux of their relationship too accurately & that's why there have been calls from the Royal family media persons to consider this as fiction & not fact. They never did this for the other seasons. May have hit too close to the mark.
Though Charles was despicable, Josh's portrayal has made me feel a bit sorry for him because he was equally as lost as Diana.
He's submissive due to his childhood & none of the royals of subsequent generations had the courage to break from tradition after the historical falldown from the older set (King George's elder brother who abdicated & then there was Margaret who tried, flailed & failed to change the royal prerogative).
The difference in age & outlook also impacted the marriage & ofcourse CPB.
I just don't get how Charles goes from badmouthing Diana to CPB & then goes I-love-you & looks like he meant it.
His resentment stems from his childhood insecurities & he wants dull (CPB) to be able to shine in contrast, not be the #JugEars to #LadyDi.
One of the best scenes was the one between Diana & the Queen. Guess she broke every protocol. Wonder if it really happened.
The Queen's reaction mirrors what she's become: figurehead queen in place of an actual person.
