In this way, all those virtuous women of the lineage entered the water, were freed and went to the worlds obtained by their husbands. They had divine forms. They wereadorned in divine ornaments. There were divine garments and garlands. They went where theirhusbands were. They were spirited and possessed good conduct. All of them possessed all the good qualities. Freed from sin, they vanished and obtained their own respective abodes. V

Ordered to commit suicide because their husbands were dead and they were past the child bearing age so useless.

Atleast better than those wars where women were raped and forced to marry the Victorius.

Or is it really

The price of Dhritrashtra Pandu Duryodhana and Yudhistir's crimes was paid by these women too not just women on Pandavas side.

How can God's brother or son be a rapist and he not doing anything about it.

So you make the woman a river and show the rapist doing divine Leela.

Or

Like in the serial RK, make the rape victim Lakshmana a vamp so that if at all people realise that she had been assaulted they will blame her (she deserved it).

You have seen this already with Draupadi,

Vyasa did not put Andhe ka Putra Andha or ' Naham Varami Sutam' or like Sid tewary did a Shastraharan of Kouravas and Karna. These were all similar whitewashings done

Karna had the misfortune of not being Krishna's brother otherwise he would have had a temple for him at Puri.

But he gets whitewashed enough in any case as the poor abandoned rejected awesome hero who only gave Draupadi what she deserved.

We wouldn't have known these if not for Vyasa who sneakily uses poetic metaphor to bring the truth out.

He states facts as is through similes and metaphors and leaves it on the wisdom of people to read and form their own opinions

Unfortunately Hindus never read their own epics Mahabharata Ramayana and other Puranas. They listen to their grandmother watch TV shows and read fan fictions and form their opinions.

Can't agree more. Balram was lucky to have Krishna as his brother else he would have had been like a Shakuni being blamed for every right n wrong things he has done. People had started worshipping Krishna, hence his family members should be some great souls, not just this also his enemies automatically become villian. The biggest example which I think of is Paundrik. Considering that he really thought himself to be God only shows he suffered from some kind of mental ailment or hallucinations, was that big enough a reason to attack his kingdom and kill him? Kansa too hadn't done a single crime till that supposed Akshaswani which stated that Devaki's son will kill him, any earthly being will try to eliminate the cause of his death, aside he didn't kill his sister or brother in law, and was ready to spare their kids too unless Narada (whom as we know from further events was a well wisher n probably trusted henchman of Vasudev) brainwashed him. He didn't kill Ekhamansa/Nand's daughter and ensured a proper upbringing for her. But all he gets is hatred.

To be honest even Jarasandh was a good king and not someone villianous. But they all pay for being anti Krishna and Balram n Samb become greats (avtar of shesgnag n rudra of Shiv) just because they were brother n son respectively of Krishna

The whitewashing of Karna I guess started with Rashmirathi by MSG, because my grandmother always condemned him

I will still hope they had the earlier future, latter would have been all the more To be very honest and it might seem blasphemous but practically I don't think the Pandavas (even excluding Yudhishtir who was the worst of all) at least Bheem Hindimba alliance doesn't seem consentual to me

'Naham Varami Sutam' was not there in Vyasa?

Most probably that is an interpolation.

Out of over 1200 manuscripts that BORI collated across the country, only 4 had this shlok.

And even these 4 manuscripts later Mentions Shalya n the Radheya (son of Radha) among the losers of this competition. Now obviously if Karn was stopped from participating, then there is no way he could have lost. So either of these shloks have to be an interpolation and I guess a shlok which appears in more than half of the manuscripts found gets precidence over the one found in only 4 of them.

Then why did not Draupadi marry Karna?

All the manuscripts say this (including the 4 interpolated ones in the very next paragraph)

Karna failed. If he failed why will she marry him.

Arjun was in the disguise of unknown poor Brahmin and she garlands him without as much as a sound.

Guess who makes noise at that - Karna and Shalya who lead all the Kshatriya there saying this was a swayamavar for Kshatriya how dare a Brahmin participate. Let us kill him and burn Draupadi alive for garlanding him.

Now tell me the logic in this ......

Why was Karna leading the group of people saying that only Kshatriya should participate.

Plus the fact that there were hundreds of Kshatriya there who would rather as demonstrated in the next para burnt her alive for garlanding a victor who wasn't one of them. Would she a mere 16 year old princess dare open her mouth and reject one of them.

This wasn't one off incident. It was in every single Swayamvar where a girl dares to reject a suitor - either she is forcibly taken or she is rejected by all kings

Subhadra, Prabhavati, Kashi princesses Amba and her sisters, Duryodhana's wife, Lakshmana they are named in the epic itself there are many many more.

Only way a girl ever had a choice was if the man she chose turned out stronger than other kings. Like Rukmini/Rukmavati, Mitravinda Bhadra and Naganjiti and Draupadi

Drauapdi would be really dumb to open her mouth and get raped before the contest actually turns up a candidate stronger than Karna to even dare. Dumb she definetly was not

@Bold how could they kill a Brahmin? They thought Arjun to be a Brahmin and I don't think anyone in those days would have dared kill a Brahmin that too in open

I think they had planned to let go the Brahmins and kill Draupadi for insulting them

But suppose Karna wins.

Now if Draupadi opens her mouth she will be abducted.

If she does not open her mouth she has to garland Karna then and there.

What is the difference?
