I've been following YHC via India Forums and Instagram (and sometimes catching up on episodes on Hotstar). I agree that YHC cannot be compared to YHM but I think it's unfair to dismiss Rusha as a couple by comparing them to Ishra. Abrar and Sargun have great chemistry and they have a different dynamic then what Karan and Divyanka had. Considering they are fairly newer actors than Divan, they have achieved a feat on its own. It's a delight to watch their scenes, especially the ones that have aired after the lockdown. It's kind of unfair to compare Abrargun and Divan. Both are great pairs and all actors are commendable.
But for me, YHM will always be superior to YHC for other reasons. While Divan has a special place in my heart, it was the ensemble cast and the simple, relatable writing of the first 1.5-2 years of YHM that gave it a special charm and magic. YHC is set in a huge bungalow with a multimillionaire rockstar with so much negativity around in the form of vamps and villains which makes it hard to connect to. I only follow it for the scenes between Rudraksh-Preesha-Saransh (The male lead, the female lead, and child). YHM, on the other hand, showcased families similar to many of ours and portrayed family moments we could all relate to. Whether it was the banter between the Iyer sisters (Mihika, Ishita, Vandita), Raman-Mihir bond, Raman-Bala bond, Ishita-Bala bond, Iyer vs Bhalla feud, and course Ishru and Ishra. In so many moments of Ishita-Ruhi, I could see myself with my mom or my brother with my mom. Just how Ruhi used to hug and kiss Ishita when she saw her crying or sad, my brother does the same with my mom who is recovering from major brain surgery (my brother is 10 yrs old for context). Ishita-Raman as a couple were also realistic (for the first 1.5-2 years). They weren't like any Yash Raj or Karan Johar type couples where romance was over the top but instead were like any other married couple that you could see in real life. In the episode from 6th Dec 2015, there was an Ishra scene in the kitchen where Raman forgets Ishita's birthday and one of Ishita's lines is, "Aap mujshe ande fudvaaoge Raman? Birthday date yaad nahi hai or ande fudvaaoge mujhse?" The tone in which she said it was exactly how my mom retorts to my dad (or to me and my brother sometimes) when they're having a fun-loving banter.
Below is a list of other episodes that showcased the homely, fun-loving, positive relationships in the show in case you'd like to revisit them and relive the old YHM:
10-13 May 2014 --> Ishra locked in their house all dressed up
30 May 2014 --> Ruhi helps Ishima cook for the guests (reminds me of how I always asked for my mom to do stuff as a child to help her out in the kitchen)
10 June 2014 --> The iconic Ishra bench scene
16 June 2014 --> Raman and Mr. Bhalla enjoying match; Ishita-Mihika having mangoes with Amma
31 July 2014 --> Bhalla and Iyer cricket match
8 August 2014 --> The banter between the Iyer sisters as they try to make Punjabi food and then Ishita's phone call with Raman
14 August 2014 --> Raman-Mihir scene where Raman is trying to figure out his new feelings and awareness for Ishita (after seeing her stitching her blouse)
15 August 2014 --> The scene where Ishita was making Ruhi get ready in traditional wear took me back to my childhood when my mom used to get me all decked up for Navratri or any other festival.
23 Sept 2014 --> The truth or dare game and Raman-Bala teasing Ishita
26 Sept 2014 --> Ruhi takes Raman to her school
The list goes on and on but I'll stop here so as not to keep on rambling. Please join in on any other suggestions for episodes and scenes that are worth revisiting to relive the old YHM.
