From what I've heard, there's more similarities than differences, the template of the movie is based the book, the movie builds on top of this, and they made a few other minor changes. It was just shameless of the movie makers to try and get away without crediting Chetan, and when they did include his name, it was in small print in the end credits, where the audience would've left before his name even appeared.

I’ve read the book and they haven’t made minor changes...they based it off the books character sketches and setting and they credited that...the screenplay and the adaptation of it is most certainly diff from the book...

rest all I’m not sure what even was their terms of agreement in the contract or how much he should get paid

Urge him to go legally if his work has been indeed “stolen” or his contract terms had breached...he has ground to stand on in that case

Exactly, it makes me sick seeing how many people are using sushants death for their own selfish agendas, the lies people are saying are just insane. Chetan is more or less threatening critics to give dil bechara a good review, how is that fair? Yes people will be respectful for sushant, but its still a film and their job is to review it honestly. Chetan is just another frustrated person who is being bitter

Worst part is Chetan has made disparaging remarks against films and now is not letting anyone else have creative license

Chetan, kangna and so many others are big hypocrites, they have no place to insult others when they have done so many wrong things themselves, they are not innocent here either

More so the characters and the setting ... I wouldn’t say the story

5 point someone was abt 3 guys who suck at their grades in IIT because of the pressures of the system and the need to conform...so they get sick of it and attempt to steal papers and get caught and almost thrown out...but they somehow manage to pass through with pass grades and secure some jobs except Ryan( aamirs character in the book) who has the lowest gpa of them all...meanwhile the deans daughter and Madhavans char have a thing as a side plot...and sharmans character has financial pressures and attempts suicide when he gets caught stealing papers...a teacher who understands them helps them out and prevents them from getting rusticated ..that’s it

3 idiots has this whole arc of searching for a friend, Rancho is actually the topper because he dosent conform , he’s with the deans daughter, the quest for excellence message, The flashback and forward, the individual scenes themselves the whole change of mind Boman Irani has after the delivery scene, Rancho being a poor boy who only wanted to study and didn’t care abt having a degree ...all of that is the screenplay writers

It’s definitely inspired and adapted...had they not credited him it would be glaringly obvious ...but they did ...and they did make changes to the story and changed the screenplay and message completely ..

So if he feels they breached his payment terms that’s a diff issue ...
