I'm sorry - this doesn't make any sense. The award is for best ACTOR not best screenplay, story, or movie and should be judged separately. If an actor does a great job, their work shouldn't be discarded because the movie was problematic.
Last year, Ranveer won for Padmaavat and Ranbir for Sanju. Both characters were misogynistic and violent. Khilji's deranged as well. Both movies tried to glorify these two problematic characters.
This year, Alia was awarded for a "violent" and "angry" character as well.
Joaquin Phoenix also just won an Oscar for a character like the Joker with its multitude of issues! The movie received polarized comments with respect to violence as well.
I don't agree that actors should be penalized because the movie had issues. The award is not an endorsement of the character's behavior. It's a recognition of the actor's talent. Two extremely different concepts.
Truth is, if Ranbir or Ranveer had done the movie instead of Shahid, they would have won without question. It's another story that they wouldn't have done justice.
The problem is you talk too much sense and too late in the day! Its been going on for decades like this and will go on exactly the same way in the future too...
