Very simple explanation. Reverse psychology is a defence mechanism. When one feels that whatever I might do people will assume the worst of me, I might as well project that image. It is liberating as well.

This guy has been slashed and burned badly in relationships. So he wants others to start at the worst impression and then move to a better comprehension of his character.

Its actually a wonderfully simple but an extremely tough litmus test to pass. Ill give you an example. If you are poorly dressed and plain looking people will not talk to you in a gathering. You will not get any attention. However the one who does come up to you and engages in a conversation, he has done it out of real interest and not because of superficial reasons.

Sid also categorises people like that. I wonder if he has developed this trait consciously or unconsciously?
