Maybe Pakistani's (who watch Bollywood films in LARGE numbers) have been kept away by the constant digs against their country in the last 3 years. Not only that, even Indian/Bangladeshi Muslims could have turned off Bollywood due to the subtle/not so subtle Islamophobic tropes trend seen in Bollywood of late.

And of course, the SRK factor is there. If he was in some big Dharma production, it would do £1M.

Agree. Doosra aaj kal Pakistani picture bhi ok ok production value ke banane lage hain.

Bala is not a film that has a huge market in the UK. I am surprised it's not showing in Birmingham though. However, even if it was, it wouldn't be in the Top 20 grossers of the year, let alone cross the £1M mark.

We are busy with Brexit, there's a very big chance all wages will be hit by recession (people worry) , by the new policies after exiting EU.. there's a lot of stuff going on and moviegoers might be less inclined to spend because everyone's stressed over finances and expenses (my cost of living in Uk versus my cost of living in France is hugely different.).

It doesn't mean the movies are worse.. just that maybe many find the trip to the cinema too expensive.

Some movies aren't even available in areas nearby. I was In North West for a time and couldn't even find a cinema showing any new BW release, unless I was prepared to drive for like 2-3 hours...

It's also to do with the subject matter. Historicals, romcoms have more viewers because of entertainment value. Dramas have less. Some superstars have their own audiences . But some won't go to any movie- those that are too 'patriotic' or 'mysogynistic' won't find an audience in the Non desi, BW liking bunch like me.

I go watch historicals and movies that I 've enjoyed the sound of from reviews . For the rest I wait for the Netflix/Amazon release.

If it crosses £994,000 (Housefull 2, 2012), it will be his highest grosser since 2008's Singh Is King which done well over a million.
