BI, you are doing exactly what you told AM not to do in the Sanjay/Kriti topic. You are making excuses for Rani. She’s victim blaming because she has an accused rapist in her family and doesn’t want to deal with the reality of that.

Arre why would I defend Rani..I am not even her fan....I am defending her line of thought....the situation we all live in...yes we should all take the responsibility of our own self.....I went to India recently.....I have a young daughter....I was on my toes all the time trying to protect her...not leaving her hand even for a minute...that is how scared I am .....Do u think I will wait for the society to change and people raising their boys right and all that jazz....no I won't...I will protect myself and my daughter...I will take it as my own responsibility...and I will support anyone that has a similar line of thought......Rani's brother is an accused rapist then he should be sitting in jail...and that has nothing to do with what I am saying...Rani is immaterial here....it is what she is saying that I am defending......we can have all the debates, discussion and play of words but that doesn't protect me and my daughter....that is my point.

No she’s teaching her daughter that if god forbid she ever got raped it will be her own fault for not protecting herself. And by extension if she ever has a son she’ll be teaching him that if a girl doesn’t fight and kick or punch then it can’t be rape and he cannot be a rapist for attacking her. Once again, I think a lot of what comes out of her mouth are remnants of her brother’s case.

I don't understand ...how people want to be so politically correct even when they see and read about what is happening to women in India day in and day out....political correctness be damned....with Nirbhaya's rapist still alive while the poor girl is long gone....we as Indians don't have the luxury of being politically correct.....we need to say it as we see it....if it seems wrong its OK..as long as we are safe.

No she is not ....this is what u being politically correct are assuming about her...no sane woman would say that.....and its really bad on your part of accusing her of something so low......The political correctness in our country is going to be the end of it one day.

Rani’s views on this whole issue is super problematic. Victim blaming is the worst part plus how does she expect little girls to defend themselves with Karate and whatever hell she wants them to learn?

@blue-ice.1, I thought you were a Rani fan. If not then my bad.

I feel like we are all running in circles here. Problem isn’t girls learning self defense. Problem is thinking self defense is the solution. I understand your fear while traveling to India. You were being a protective and proactive mom. But you have to know that if God forbid a gang of men had cornered you nothing you could about it right? This is where Rani’s comments are causing anger. She’s insisting that no matter what a woman should be able to get herself out of the situation perhaps by karate chopping a gang of 4 or more men.

For god’s sake she’s said things like “it’s a woman’s responsibility” to protect herself. Do you really not see this as a problematic statement and victim blaming?

Yes she is politically not correct....she sounds very wrong....but when I see it from my perspective....I was doing the same thing in India...I took the responsibility on myself to protect myself and my child...like I told u before...when in India..I don't have the luxury of being politically correct...I look out for myself........we had all these debates for 7 long years after Nirbhya....using all these big words and theories....and what do we get.....Dr Reddy....and so many in between......I don't think that Rani or anyone would ever say that Dr Reddy getting raped and murdered was her fault and not the rapists...no one.....but even after that we were all discussing what that poor girl could have done ....stay at the toll, call an uber...wait for her sister to arrive...we were all discussing what she could have done.....because that is what is practical...that is the kind of world we live in.

No I am not Rani's fan......and I don't defend my favorites if they are wrong....taht is what I was telling AM..that what SD had said..there was nothing to defend in that.....but here not only I see Rani's POV but I also do the same...

@ bold...of course no one can fight a gang....so I want to know what the people are getting angry at her...suggest....what is their solution...and by solutions I mean practical ones....not the bookish solutions...raising good kids and changing society.....that wn't happen in a million years....focusing on how the Temple will be made is more important than protecting girls....We have our priorities set.....while Rani's suggestion might not work always...it might in some cases....how is that bad....jo kar sakte hain woh toh karein na.

FFS Rani is not politically incorrect. Rani is just incorrect. She’s not saying women should learn self defense the way Akshay Kumar advocates for it. She’s putting the onus of it on women to prevent rapes. That’s why everyone is angry with her. And she’s raising future generations with that mind set. Her suggestions are just one or two steps away from saying women shouldn’t wear jeans or short skirts to prevent rape.

I don’t know what a practical and immediate solution is to this problem. But it sure as hell isn't victim blaming. And please don’t tell me that’s not what Rani is doing because that’s exactly what she’s doing. People like Rani and her defenders are making it easier for society to never change. They make it easier for someone with a verified twitter account to say rape should be legalized so rapists won’t kill the victim out of fear of prosecution. Or how women should carry condoms so they can live. I mean, is this practical enough? Because I’m sure both Nirabhaya and Dr. Reddy’s family would give anything to have their daughters alive today?

I’m done running in circles over this. I need to get out of this topic for a bit.
