This jabardasti ka putting a woman on a pedestal and then expecting her to behave like a saint otherwise resorting to stoning her if she doesn’t match up to these expectations is not just disgusting but dangerous also, like you said!
That’s why Mateen’s dialog about how its the good women who keep world together not men , left me uneasy and not able to appreciate his rest of the words.....
Also this waiting for the destruction of Mehwish is another thing that’s quite not resonating with me at all...Yes Mehwish did sin and she will be punished but if she regrets and seeks redemption wholeheartedly, she should be allowed to live her rest of the life in peace if not happiness...
For once, I would like to watch a drama where a woman is allowed to live her life to the fullest after seeking redemption for her sins!
I completely agree with the bold. I find the discussion around Mehwish's destruction uncomfortable. Of course, her actions are wrong, and she's not a nice person however down the line if she realises she was in the wrong and makes an effort to change it's not justified for people to refuse her that opportunity.
There's a nasty double standard at play here, where a man can have an affair and then be left in peace to get on with his life. But if a woman has an affair people don't let her move on, they define her entire life by that one action. You can see this in the drama, Mateen cheated on his wife and went on to live a respectable life. He tells Danish he had an affair, and Danish doesn't bat an eyelid. No real explicit correlation is being made between what Mateen did and what Mehwish is doing; when their sins are in fact the same.
And Shawar seems to be getting off scot-free. No one is discussing his downfall, or how wrong his actions are. I've said it before and I'll say it again I think Shawar is worse than Mehwish; not only is he cheating on his wife with Mehwish, but he actively pursued a married woman and seems to get a thrill out of breaking a marriage. It's a power trip for him. I also get the impression he's a bit of a lothario and a serial cheater. Mehwish is probably not the first woman he's cheated on his wife with.
I haven't seen this weeks episode yet.
