Isn't anyone reminded of Banegi Apni Baat, another serial by the same producers/directors. The story line is same - mother and trio of daughters moving from UP to mumbai. The elder daughter is a fashion designer with an unlucky relationship in the past, the second one is the free spirited one and the third is the timid and shy one. The first few episodes had a similar story with the youngest not getting admission to college.
Banegi Apni Baat starred actors like Surekha Sikri, Firdaus Dadi, Joan David, Rituraj, Irrfan Khan and Shefali Chhaya.

Yup! RKB does have a similar storyline to BAB, but what makes this show different than BAP is Apu a.k.a Dr. Shekhar!! 😳 BAp didn't have such a chweeettt doc right? 😆

Zareen.

True, its a pretty old concept. so we have to see how they move the story from here to bring a fresh look.

You are so right. Today while watching 25th episode, I was thinking the same thing. In fact in BAB also I think the mom's name was Radha. And Roshan Ammu was Rahul's mom!!! 😳

And Zareen, Apu jaisa cutie toh nahin tha, but Rahul was also quite cute in those days - I can't remember his screen name though - he did a small cameo in JJKN as well. And that other cutie - that south Indian actor who was also in DYND - he was also there in BAB!!! 😳

it is jussst like banegi apni baat...im a hugeee BAB fan, so i just saw one epi of this...and couldnt help but compare it to that; somehow that seemed much better. Apu is goood here, but the rest of banegi was amazing...it had an amazing cast.

many things are similar...radha, a widow and her three daughters come to mumbai (only in BAB, they came from kanpur..) The eldest, richa, was a fashion designer, middle, ritu, was very mast- she wanted to be a model, only the youngest, riya, didnt want to be an astraunaut, she wanted to be a psychologist! (and she was little happier than chutki, though radha used to call her chutki! 😆 )

And the serial starts with the middle two going to college...their first day; the youngest one, hoping she gets admission in her choice of course. And sometimes the mother and daughters used to break into poetry..

As for Apu's character...hmm, rahul of banegi wasnt like apu...apu is more like madhavan, who was ashley in BAB. very happy go luckky and got along really well with all sisters and with Radha, calling her by that name too! actually even characters like manav and karan in some ways were similar to apu's character.

However BAB seemed more natural somehow...like I said, apart from Apu, the cast in BAB really really stood out, because they were so natural...the dialogues were great...cast amazing, like surekha sikri, madhavan, shefali chaya, sandhya mridul, irfan khan...sooo many more... And that old dadi type person, haha...she was actually there in BAB, only thing is...she was a sort of villian...she was the only villian of BAB!

i was acutally surprised to see dj's had made this, when it was soooo similar to BAB...hmm, that still has my loyalites though... and the look of BAB, still seems the best and freshest serial ive ever seen on tv...strange, because it was one of the firsssst few serials on zee...was a weekly and ran for 6 years!

thanks soooperfan for seconding me..I am a hardcore BAB fan too..
The story line of RKBKKD totally mimics BAB...even the latest track with the eldest daughter's critique of a famous designers work is same as BAB..where Richa critiques a dress and she's hired by the Rival..(Kalpana Ayyer in a small but memorable role..Irrfan Khan played her husband)

The photographer in RKBKKD reminds me of Nikhil in BAB..remember the guy Richa eventually marries?
These wouldn't be mere coincidences..a good lot of time has past since BAB was on air..but it left an indelible impression in viewers' minds..this was one show which gave the TV industry and bollywood some of the finest stars...shefali chhaya, achint kaur, irrfan khan, madhava, sadiya siddiqui, waquar and others..

DJs has tried to tweak the story a bit..add star value in terms of apoorva and supriya..though apoorva reminds me of manav in BAB..or may be a combo of Manav and Madhavan..

Lets see how the story unfolds..otherwise..for me and other BAB fans..its going to be deja vu..all the way

Madhavan was really dashing in BAB..though I liked him more in Saaya..remember the one with Manasi Joshi Roy and Achint Kaur?
The copying game is an old one..even Jassi was a remake of a colombian tv soap..so there..
but BAB was my all time fav! I still wish zee has some reruns of it..though the story went completely haywire in the later stages of the series..
FYI..another star from BAB's kitty... Varun Badola! He played suitor to Riya the youngest daughter..😃
