@Suzanne legally they are not married. But when coming to Hindu marriage there are 7 type of marriage of which brahma vivaha is considered to be the most ausipicious where bride is given away in marriage by her father to a groom accepted by her and follows all rituals of saptapadi. But Hinduism also accepts gandharva vivah where bride and groom just exchange garlands with nature as their witness. As per hindu shastras exchanging garlands with free will is also accepted marriage though not ideal one. So it depends on what kind of emotion adi and zoya attach to that garland exchange will define what meaning they are giving to their relation and trust and respect associated with it.
