I have a slightly different POV. Here Kushi and Ayan are cousins and she is staying with his family. They consider her their daughter, same like Elena in Sona's house. They might not know the change of dynamics in their relationship and that may be the reason they felt insulted and offended when Sona revealed that she misunderstood when she saw Khushi with Ayan.
Even if they engage private investigators nothing will come off it except that they meet often at her college or in cafe's. They can easily play the cousin card there. When Khushi herself is showing enthusiasm regarding this marriage which would not have been the case if she was romantically involved how can anyone doubt them? They have an ulterior motive and I don't know if there is any one behind Ayan. Because the target is not Riya but Dev. Sona was the only one who saw their behaviour in the cafe and later the way Ayan behaved also triggered her suspicion.
The proposal came from Ayan's family and Ishwari must have inquired outside with her circle of friends and neighbours about Ayan and it must have been positive. Other wise she wouldn't be this sure that she is right in this case. The only problem is that the motive is hidden. Ishwari would never have thought that some one from a rich and influential family would have a hidden agenda behind the proposal and that Dev might have enemies who will try to use his sisters as bait.
Dev knows that Sona's doubts and the way it was revealed, every one took it as an insult. He doesn't want to alienate them further and make his mother think that he doesn't trust her. But as a husband and brother he is trying to support Sona. If he gets even a small clue about Ayan's nefarious plans he will take the mantle from Sona for sure. And Ayan will rue the day he even set his eyes on Dev.😃
