JALEBI by Jalebi Jane (EPISODE 042)
I cannot seem to ascertain, Sisters, what Our Heroine expected to hear from Mr Raizada. But I can assure you that it was not: If you agree to spend one night with me. Her mouth parted from mingled horror and breathlessness. Hauling back a hand, she prepared to deliver a---
"Before you complete that thought, Miss Gupta," he interrupted her, "I suggest you reconsider."
Reconsider?
"When we next meet, you'll be in my bed---and this will make for awkward foreplay."
Khushi let fly a stinging slap to his cheek.
She pulled back, and turned away from him as she flexed her hand from the pain of bone-on-bone contact.
He said, "I'm happy to see that you are not as frail as you look."
Glancing over her shoulder, she saw he rubbed his cheek, an approving smile on his lips. His eyes insinuated things she couldn't quite understand, but she knew his words implied something vulgar.
She faced him, hands on hips, and fired back, "and you've just proved how feeble you are." Bolstered by the steel which entered his eyes, and wanting to diminish his manhood the way he had just devalued her, Khushi sneered, "a man so pathetic he has to prey on a woman's desperation. But it shows that you know your aukaat, Mr Raizada. You know you would have no chance to win my hand so you waited until I would be on my knees and then try to buy me."
"You say that as if I would be offended by it," he replied, caustically, "I have no qualms about buying a woman's time. I prefer it."
"Is that what you do?" Khushi didn't realize what she asked before the words had left her mouth.
"I do."
He stated this with such ease---so flatly, so flagrantly---that Khushi was staggered. With her lip curled with revulsion, she said, "You disgust me. It's obvious you have no respect for women, but it seems you have no respect for yourself either."
"It's a more honest transaction than what you call courtship. Or this grand delusion of love that you seem to be saving yourself for."
"You have a sister---is that what you prefer for her? That she would be propositioned in this honest manner? Rather than be courted with love and honour?"
He ignored her question, and said, "Which do you prefer, Miss Gupta?---my telling you the lie that I want to court you, as I did two days ago? Or telling you the truth, as I do now---that I want to f**k you?"
Khushi's arm lifted to strike him.
He caught it before it landed, and tugged so she was pulled off balance and fell on his chest. As she scrambled to find her feet, he snarled, "had I been a convincing suitor, you would still end up in my bed, but it would be based on a lie. Or is that the point? So you can feel virtuous while you quench your desire. You want me as badly as I want you. Say it."
She would say no such thing.
She struggled against him, but his grip was fierce. Her eyes widened and she began to truly fear for herself. With clenched fists, she thumped his chest with all her might.
He was impervious. He took her wrists and swung her around so her back landed against the pillar where he had been standing a moment earlier. Her arms pinned against the cool cement, he lowered his face so his eyes were staring into hers; a madness shone in his.
Khushi's rage was no less. She spit her angry syllables. "I'd rather marry Shyam than touch you."
He had the audacity to laugh at her. As one laughs with disbelief at the assertions of a child. "I felt your response when I kissed you yesterday. I could take you right now---here, against this wall, and you wouldn't even put up the pretence of a struggle."
And as he finished his words---he abruptly released her, and stepped away. The change in temperament was so sudden that it left her reeling.
"Go!" he barked.
Khushi couldn't move. Her legs would not co-operate. She could only stare back at him.
He looked at her as though he could not comprehend her. And without letting another second pass, he left the archway. The force of the rain erased him from her view almost immediately.
Breathless and trembling, Khushi pushed herself away from the pillar and left the shelter to dash towards the hospital entrance.
The next moment happened in such a flash that I have no real understanding of it, Sisters. All I can tell you is what I heard and saw.
The screech of tires. And in the next instant, Khushi was yanked off her feet and twisted away from a blinding streak of car lights which barely missed her. A puddle of rain dispersed by the swerving wheels. Drowning her. Snatching the breath from her lungs. She clung to the solid warmth of the pillar. Heaving. Gasping.
In increments, presence of mind and place returned, and with it, a slow realization that this was not a pillar which she gripped to her body. But solid flesh. A man. And the next moment told her which man.
Khushi's head tipped back, and blinking against the rain which fell unceasingly, she saw Arnav's face, drenched, above her. His eyes bright. Watchful. Intense. As though she knew what was inevitable---and somehow necessary---a half-sob fell from her lips as his mouth crushed down on hers.
Whatever it was that had happened under the archway---that rage, that frustration---was transformed into mindless passion. Khushi's arms locked over his shoulders, her hands gripped his neck, deepening the contact. Heedless to the storm, to their own earlier tempest, Khushi met the quick thrust of his tongue with her own need. Stirring. Demanding.
A clap of thunder broke over their heads. They came apart with a gasp. Her hair hung in wet ropes over her cheeks. Arnav brushed them back from her face. She stared at him. Incredulous. Stupefied---
"Khushi? Mr Raizada?"
They both turned towards the interruption.
The ASRGroup driver was holding a large black umbrella, and her sister---eyes wide with astonishment---was crouched under it.
