Here are some of the questions that came to mind when I thought about
(1) What is your favourite song from MAKMGR? .... and why?
In fact, i love all the tracks of MKMGR, be it 'jane kyon aisa lagta hai', it has really beautiful lyrics and it is a song, which can be dedicated to your lover or lifepartner. š³ I also loved the song on Maa...it goes like 'Bina bole jo samajh le mere mann ki baat', its a beautiful song too and i also liked the song which Sudha recorded, 'wohi main, wohi tu', it has a beautiful aalaap.š³
But, my favourite track from the serial is the title track of the serial because it has a lot of feel in it. It has the kind of music, which can be made to sound both sad and happy. I think that the title track can be sung to express the happy and sad moods of Sudha. So it suits the serial and its theme a lot.So i feel the title track 'Meri Awaaz ko Mil Gayi Roshni' is my favourite. š³
(2) What is your favourite song in general?(and if you'd like to say: composer/singer/lyricist) .... and why?
I love a lot of oldie goldies, songs of Lataji, Ashaji, Kishoreda, Mohd Rafi saab and among the singers of the 90's Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan and among recent singers, Sonu Nigam and Shaan. Now that's a long list, but i love the songs sung by all these singers. Can't name a few songs, but i love songs sung by all these singers. My favourite composers would be the Burmans' (S.D.Burman and R.D.Burman) and also Ravindra Jain and Salil Chowdhary. š³ Among lyricists, i feel Gulzaar and Javed Akhtar are quite good.š
(3) We all saw what happened to everyone when Sudha was doing her riyaz .... but how did you feel? ...... Do you like "Sudha's" voice (i.e., the playback singer's voice)? .... Please explain why or why not.
I love the songs of MKMGR and i feel that the playback singers, be it Mahalaxmi Iyer or Gayathri Iyer are doing a great job. They have sung such beautiful songs, that touch the hearts and i feel that their voice suits Sudha a lot. š³
(4) Is there any advice you'd give to either Raj or Nikhil regarding their respective launch techniques? (i.e., would you advise them to make Sudha sing more hip-hop numbers or to make Rhea sing bhajans?)
Regarding the launch techniques, i feel that Sudha is a classically trained singer and that image suits her a lot. She can sing bhajans, romantic and melodious songs really well. So i feel that Nik should launch her utilizing these qualities in Sudha to the maximum. It would be good, if they conduct a press conference, where Sudha gets to express, how genuine a person she is in real too. Nik should project her simple, innocent and sweet image and not make her wear hip hop clothes and make her stand in the middle of parties. She should be made popular by giving her chances to exhibit her talent as singer and give more chance to exhibit her talents as a classical singer. š³
Regarding Rhea's launch, i feel that Raj should try to project Rhea's glamourous side and try to make her appear as a rockstar and though her singing abilities are very low when, compared to that of Sudha, Raj can make her appear glamourous to the audience and she can do some remix tracks and even some hiphop songs. It would be really good, if the orchestration of the song is absolutely enticing, as Rhea's voice is not captivating and therefore, they need to concentrate more on the application of musical instruments in the song. Raj should make her conduct high level parties and even do some public functions, so as to catch media attention. That is the only way to make her popular. š
So Nik should concentrate more on Sudha's singing abilities and Raj should concentrate more on projecting the looks and glamour side of Rhea's personality. š
And lastly,
(5) There are many genres of music out there today .... in Nikhil's words ..... some are more hype than substance while others are more substance than hype ...... which of these do you think is the future of music in India and what do you think MAKMGR is trying to hint at with the similarities/differences between Raj's launch for Rhea and Nikhil's launch for Sudha.
Now-a-days, music is more of hip-hop, remix and sometimes, they sound absolutely boring. There are more of sensuous and fast kind of songs, which suits the themes of the movies they are making now-a-days. There are very few songs, which touch our hearts. I feel, if it goes in this manner, our music industry will go in the track of hip-hop songs, which doesn't touch our heart or soul. They are just for timepass and can be played in discos to dance to.
I feel that the future of Indian music, should be melody. But i don't feel that our present music industry is going in that direction. There are very few music directors now-a-days, who make romantic songs or melodies. Now-a-days along with the original tracks, they release the remix versions and sometimes, most of the songs sound jarring. I am personally not at all happy with the direction in which present music industry is moving.
The tracks of MKMGR is a fresh whiff of air, that blew into this crap kind of filmi-music scenario. Inspite of being a serial, it has such wonderful, melodious and touching songs. I feel that now-a-days, the best music directors are coming to the television industry.š Anyway, Jeet Ganguly has given beautiful music and i loved the lyrics of Nida Fazli in this serial.
I hope that the present indian film music directors, take classes from these upcoming music directors and make some music, which would remain in our hearts for a long long time just like we still cherish the oldie goldies of Indian music. Music should be classic masterpieces, which enter through our ears and touch our souls. Anyway, i can't predict what the future of Hindi film music would be, but i hope that at some point, people will feel the missing of melody in the songs now-a-days and hope the melody returns to our Indian music.
Regarding, what the makers of MKMGR are hinting at, i feel that they are trying to show us, that trying to launch a singer like Rhea, who doesn't understand what inspiration of music is and trying to make her a product, is a big mistake on the side of Raj.
Raj is a good marketing manager, but if he had somehow tried to launch Sudha or backed off from launching Rhea and supportive of Sudha, he would've been right. But trying to launch a singer, whose voice won't touch the hearts of the audience, is cheating the singer as well as the audience.
Nik is doing the right thing, by launching Sudha, but his intentions are not right. He want to destroy Raj and that is a negative intention. So Nik is wrong on that point, though he is doing a right thing for a negative reason. Raj is doing a wrong thing, by launching Rhea and he should not have taken such a drastic step. But at that point, he had no other way out and he did everything for the sake of Sudha.
Both Sudha and Raj are the victims of the revengeful mentality of Nik and Rhea and perhaps the lovers have to suffer, because of these two people in their lives. Either their career will be at stake or their love life and now it is upto Sudha and Raj to choose their priorities between career and love.šš
Looking forward to reading you responses and adding my thoughts,
