okay now about dedicating this !
I want to dedicate this to you !
Yes YOU !
you right there!!
Don't look around I'm talking about you ; the one who is reading this.
This is for you :)😳
Without you!
Sanyukta caressed her blotted belly. She was sitting on a chair on the bench in their backyard garden. A smiling Randhir was also leaning against the table with his arms crossed over his chest. His chocolate brown eyes were filled with love for his beautiful wife who was smiling lovingly at her gigantic stomach.
" I'll call her Zara !"
Sanyukta said without moving her gaze away from her belly.
"Zara means light in French. But what if it's a baby boy ?"
Randhir questioned her in a teasing manner.
" No . I'm sure it'll be a girl. Zara! The light of my life!"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A frantic Randhir rushed into the hospital with a frail Sanyukta in his arms. He laid her on a stretcher the hospital staff brought.
"Sanyu! Stay with me darling!
Please! Please open your eyes ! please !"
Randhir was pleading helplessly to a feeble Sanyukta who was slipping in and out of consciousness.
Sanyukta was quickly taken into the operation theatre. Renuka and Parth had reached the hospital by this time. They were greeted by the sight of a frustrated and frightened Randhir pacing before the OT. Parth placed a comforting hand on his friend's shoulder assuring him that everything will be fine.
All their attention was suddenly turned to the doctor who came out of the OT. The three of them rushed towards the doctor.
" What happened ?" the doctor enquired.
" she fell from the stairs while .."
Before Renuka could complete her sentence, Randhir interrupted suddenly.
"How is she Doctor? Tell me she's fine! " There was desperation in his voice and everyone could tell from the look in his eyes that he was breaking apart from within.
" Look Mr. Shekhawat, her condition is quite critical. Both the mother and the baby is in danger. We can't make any promises but we'll try our best to save both of them. The rest is in God's hands. Have faith Mr. Shekhawat." Saying this the doctor retreated to the OT.
Randhir didn't hear anything after the doctor said Danger. His Sanyukta was in danger ! He was distraught hearing the doctor's words. He collapsed on his knees. Without wasting a second Renuka took her son in a warm embrace. She was distressed with everything going on. She sent a silent prayer to the Almighty for her daughter in law and her grandchild's well being.
Randhir was trying too hard to stay strong. But his mother's embrace triggered the anxiety and dread that was building inside him to burst out. The tears he was holding began to cascade like a dam broke out.
"I want my Sanyu back! Please save her mom .. please ..."
He begged to his mother like a 5 year old pleading for his favourite toy. Renuka couldn't bear to see her son broken like this. Silent tears of helplessness rolled out of that mother's eyes.
In the eerie silence of the hospital; Renuka's sobs were the only sound that echoed in the empty corridor.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"... we don't have time! ... Everyone speed up... Get me the ...Doctor the heart rate's dec..."
Sanyukta could hear the slurry voices of the doctors and nurses inside the OT. She was trying too hard to stay awake. Above everything she was twisting with excruciating pain. It was eating her from inside. She was feeling that she'll die any moment from this barbaric pain. She wanted to escape from this torment.
Her baby! Her Angel ! She was pulled back into reality with the thoughts of her baby. she didn't want anything to happen to her Angel. She was ready to die for her Angel. She felt a sudden impulse to shout. To scream at the doctors to save her baby. But her throat refused to cooperate with her as no voice came out.
"save...the... baby !"
Summoning all her strength, she managed to utter these words in a small whisper. But no one heard her.
"Sa..ve ... myy..."
But the words died out in her throat as she finally surrendered to unconsciousness.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sanyukta was surrounded by nothing but an uneasy darkness. She tried to open her eyes. But her eyelids felt unusually heavy. It was as though someone had placed a huge weight on it. She tried again. But it was exhausting and pointless. She began to feel restless. She was tired of trying and she felt like giving up. But suddenly she felt something in her right hand. She felt her heart soar with that touch. She could recognize that touch anywhere. It was his touch! Her Randhir's! His thoughts filled her with a strange happiness and solace.
Randhir !! Suddenly her mind was flooded with the horrible memories of her falling and the pain. That reminded her of her baby. Her baby !!!
Randhir was sitting next to an unconscious Sanyukta lying on the hospital bed. He took her right hand in his. A ghost of a smile graced her lips. Sanyukta opened her eyes slowly.
"Ran...dhir !!" she managed to whisper his name in a hoarse voice. Her voice was weak. It sounded strange to even herself.
" Sanyukta !!"
"Sanyukta , you are awake !" she could sense alarm and joy in his voice.
"my...angel...??"
"MY BABY ??" she asked again summoning all her strength. Panic was evident in her voice.
He smiled at her and squeezed her hand assuring her.
"she's fine." He said darting his eyes towards the little cradle next to the hospital bed. Calmness spread over her features.
"c..can i... see her? Please ?"
she pleaded in her frail voice. She was struggling to get into a sitting position. Randhir got up and helped her sit up. He went near the crib and gently took what appeared like a small bundle carefully into his arms. He was holding the bundle as though it was the most delicate and fragile thing in the whole world.
He placed the small bundle into the waiting arms of an eager Sanyukta . He didn't miss the look of pure delight in her eyes as she saw her baby's face for the first time. Tears of mere bliss welled up her eyes.
"sh..she..she's beautiful !" she said between her broken sobs.
"My..my ...dear...Zara !"
Sanyukta was looking at the tiny creature in her arms. She was smiling through her tears.
" I love you. I love you more than anything my little angel !"
She pecked the baby's forehead gently .she turned towards a smiling Randhir and asked .
" you'll take care of her; won't you?"
He looked confused by her question.
" what are you saying Sanyu . We both can take care of .."
she cut him off before he could finish.
"promise me. Just promise!"
Randhir smiled. "I promise."
She was feeling too tired with all the talking and sitting up. She looked exhausted. Randhir sensing her weariness took the baby from her hands and placed the baby on the left side of Sanyukta . He helped Sanyukta to lay down. Sanyukta put her left hand protectively around the baby as Randhir carefully climbed onto the bed, taking care not to disturb the sleeping Zara. Sanyukta snuggled closer to him.
"I love you Randhir ." she said drowsily.
" I love you too Sanyu." Randhir kissed her temple.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Randhir woke up after some time by the baby's cry. He didn't know when he fell asleep. Not wanting to wake Sanyukta he took the baby and cradled it to sleep. After placing the baby in the crib, he went to Sanyukta .
"Sanyukta !"
Randhir called her gently tapping her cheeks.
" wake up sleepyhead."
"Sanyu ! wake up sweety !"
He called out to her again. But she refused to open her eyes. A sudden terror gripped his heart.
"Doctor !! DOCTOR !!!!"
Randhir screamed his lungs out.
Then for some time the room was abuzz with activities as doctors and nurses rushed in and out of that room. They tried several medical procedures on Sanyukta; but nothing could wake her up from her sleep.
The doctors looked at each other in an understanding manner and nodded. One of them came near Randhir; placing a hand on his shoulder the doctor said .
"I'm sorry Mr. Shekhawat ! We tried ... . ... . "
Randhir couldn't hear what the doctor was saying. Nothing was registering in his mind. He wasn't willing to believe the doctors. He went towards Sanyukta and began calling out to her. He tried coaxing her to wake up. But she refused to respond. Her angelic face looked dangerously calm and relaxed. She looked so serene and happy as though she was contented.
Hot streams of frustrated tears cascaded down his chiseled cheeks as he cradled Sanyukta in his arms. Randhir sat there; limply on the hospital bed. And there in his arms lay a lifeless Sanyukta.
She was dead and he was not ready to let her go ...
