Iniya Tamil Puthandu vazhthukkal
The traditional Tamil year starts on 14 April 2014, Jaya Varudham Kaliyuga 5113. Chithirai is the first month in a traditional Tamil Calendar followed in Tamil Nadu. The first day or Chithirai 1 is observed as New Year by many Hindu Tamil communities. Chithirai Month in 2011 begins on April 14 and ends on May 14. Some of the important and auspicious days in the month include Chithirai festival at Madurai Meenakshi Temple and Pournami.
Tamil New Year, otherwise known as Puthandu, is the celebration of the first day of the Tamil New Year and falls during the mid-April. It is not only celebrated by the Tamils in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in India, but also by the Tamil populace in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius. On Tamil New Year, people take the opportunity to greet each other saying Iniya Tamizh Puthaandu Nalvazhthukkal and also by sending Tamil New Year messages.
The warmth is spread with the help of the messages of Tamil New Year and good wishes are sent across. One can also scout for the wide collection of favorite Tamil New Year messages and accordingly choose the one that he/she likes the best. We all want each other's Puthandu to be grand and blessed.
