I really want to say that social status (rich, middle class, poor), does not have any effect in what someone chooses to wear. It's personal choice! If you're rich then that doesn't mean you wear provocative clothing (whatever that means, I don't believe in the "provocative clothing" concept).

The dress that Roma wore today was almost up to her knees. It was nowhere even close to being society's definition of "provocative". If someone wishes to dress a certain way it's up to them and we can't say that they did this because they were rich.

It was a night club, where it's even socially acceptable (once again, a concept I don't believe in) to wear short dresses. Sandhya wore a saree to a night club, which you don't see very often! However, nobody will comment on that here, because Sandhya's "covering" her body? Just like it's okay for Sandhya to wear a sari, Roma is free to wear that dress.

Women wearing sari's get raped all the time. Women who wear dresses also get raped all the time. Clothing isn't what causes rapists to rape! It's their THINKING.

I'm happy that the CVs are exploring this social issue.

wearing short dresses has nothing to do with anything rama aunty, what kind of thought is that? why is it suddenly that girls can't wear short dresses anymore without desi aunties have to point it out and talk about it? let it be irl or in dramas, what's the problem in wearing short dresses? it doesn't send any wrong message to anyone. short dresses are pretty, and if a girl has the body to wear it, they should wear it if they're comfortable with it. no need to feel awkward for someone when they're perfectly fine with it.

damn, there's no freedom anymore in this world.. not even in dramas

I have read through this thread and I agree with a lot of you on this issue! One question I have never been able to find the answer for is why does a girl always have to sacrifice in every situation? When it comes to family they have to sacrifice? When it comes to marriage, education, job there is always some sort of sacrifice?
Okay that is another debate all together and I don't want to get into that but why should a girl be questioned by the clothes she wears? It is her choice and her identity. But the problem lies in society and their mindsets...I personally have heard through my charity projects in India that women are always put at fault when they are raped...why were you wearing a short dress? Or you weren't covered? Even girls families are doubting and blaming their girls instead of the man who raped them. The mindset must change of men and not what girls wear. All the time girls are taught to do this, do that, respect this person, wear this, say that. We are controlled well then why not boys? Why is it not drilled into boys minds from a young age that you must respect everyone, you must respect any girl known or unknown to you, you must be the protector of all. Just because they are boys right...nothing can be said to them. This is the truth of our society.
Why should one not be allowed to wear short dresses where they go? They are clothes still there is nothing wrong with them. The boys are idiots who try and tease girls just because they think they are easy to get. Its the boys who should be punished for their disgusting thoughts. I have seen rape cases again and again and they don't result in what type of clothing that woman was wearing. It can be extremely young girls to middle aged women who wear sarees and dresses not short dresses only.
The thinking of society must change otherwise this situation will always continue. The first step is that women must change...they must not fear anyone or anything. They should feel confident and wear what they please and not think what will society say? Society is always going to point fingers but it is the initiative of women in society to stand tall and create their own identities why should we be inferior to anyone?. Myself being a young girl I would never let anyone judge me by the clothes I wear. Whatever I do, whatever I wear it is my identity I wouldn't let anyone change that no matter what.
Finally I would like to finish on a quote "Be the change you want to see in the world"

I agree with this 100%. Wearing a short dress is far off, even if someone is walking around naked, nobody has the right to misbehave with them.

No Rama.

Actually I was expecting a scene like it was in Chak De India but disappointed the way CVs showed it.
