I was also struck by how the director chose to depict the death of Aaliya's father. It was violent and sad. Yet, they way the camera frames it, there is a soft blurring where we see him walking towards the light. When Aaliya describes what she saw, Ibrahim quietly says that it is called martyr. So yes, it was violent but his death wasn't in vain and it is symbolized by him walking towards light. That symbolism and imagery was quite powerful. Rather than uneasy feeling, we are just left with a sense of poignant silence. The drama of what happened wasn't exploited in any way. I don't know if that makes any sense... Just some random thoughts on a Sunday!
