They had signed on for Sanam before DeD went on floors, I believe. DeD was still being shot when the drama went on-air. Then after some break, Sanam went in production. DeD was halfway through and WaFa's story hadn't officially begun. Also, I remember back in Jan or Feb of last year..Hina Bayat had left a cryptic message which hinted at a possible reunion with Obi onscreen. I had thought it was for a movie with Haissam..but it turned out to be Sanam 😆

LOL! You can just SEE how Obi has gotten tired of all the negative comments Sanam has been getting. And he is the one who receives the worst of them all cuz Hi-Fy banda like Obi doing a show like Sanam...that's not a balanced equation at all. xD They do realize he has done a "Galti Se Mistake Hogayi" on TV as well, right? 😆 Ratings thing doesn't look like has been said with pride but more with, "Na dekho..khud hi show band hojaega and aisa show phir kabhi nahin banega.."

Not that I know much of the history of Pak shows, how the ratings there work, how the shows there work but as much as I liked DeD, a lot of it made me bang my head against the wall like Sanam does now. It was a good show but not I don't think it was extraordinarily good. Or may be, it was a success because it managed to surpass the benchmark shows usually have there?

^DeD was by no means perfect. It had its VERY frustrating moments. But the positives really outweighed the negatives. For starters it was a very family centric show..with the whole values and stuff. The "love story" was basically within a family. Generally Pakistani dramas aren't like that. Plus, no one can really deny the contribution of OsMaya to the show's popularity. It was all a mixture of various things coming together which made DeD stand apart from the usual crop of the shows. Personally, my most fav show of last year was Mera Naam Yousuf Hai. Unfortunately it didn't get much attention from the masses but meh..can't do anything about it now 😆

Osman's long comment on why he chose this script... Interesting this comment came today just as we were discussing this.
  • shake_thy_lifePlease end sanam soon. Politics by sarah n chooch pana by maya is not new to us. It's just strange when you see someone you thought was thoughtful of writing picks up such script. No one knew the khula had been finalised but guess what scripts don't matter when commercialism is the approach. Balu mahi poster reminding raam leela? Something is wrong with our industry
  • aclockworkobi@shake_thy_life Ending Sanam is not in my hands; that is up to the producers' discretion. It is getting excellent ratings so far but should end at a 20-episode mark (hopefully). As for choosing this project, there were many reasons why I did: the director is one of Pakistan's best, the cast was enviable and I honestly thought the disorder/mental disease would be the focus of the show. I admit to not having read the entire serial (it was still being written and edited when we started shoot) and I will be more mindful in the future. Re: khula, there is a whole scene where Harib receives the khula papers & deals with its aftermath - so I don't know what you mean when you say 'no one knew'. I have tried my best to rectify the villainous twist given to Ayla's character in the last episode. So trust me, I am infinitely more concerned about the drama than you or any other viewer. =)

I was just going to share this comment. Itni izzat se kiya hua reply? Ankhon ko thandak mil gayi ðŸĪĢ But this explains stuff..

Teaser is more for a song than the movie. It's just so visually stunning. Trust Haissam to completely transform a place from reality to fantasy. Because I seriously doubt there's any such vibrant and gorgeous place in Pakistan as was shown in the teaser. It does give me slight Sanjay Leela Bhansali style vibes though. Also..Obi's face which I usually just adore..just made me cringe. He doesn't look prettaayyy

The reasons you just gave is exactly why I liked the show so much. Bearing Sanam only because of OsMaya/AaRib, so yeah. Gotcha. 😆 I have been meaning to watch MNYH for quite some time now. I watched this show of Imran and Sanam, that Hadi-Haya one and it was such a crapfest (I can't even seem to remember its name, Alvida, right?) that MNYH starring Imran made me a little sceptical. I know I shouldn't be judging a show on a basis of its actors but Alvida scarred me just so bad. 😆

@bold - It's the same with Indian tv shows. ðŸĪŠ Shows that make no sense at all are the one's gathering the highest of TRP's while good content doesn't click as well with the masses.

Oh and BaluMahi is an exact copy of Bajirao Mastani, straight rip off. Not Ram leela's.

Oh no! Alvida was blah. MNYH is just too darn good. Imran Abbas was fabulous as Yousuf. One of my most recommended shows. Watch it watch it watch it! Also, it's Maya's finest performance. Zulekha is such an ultimate fav of mine <3

Indian shows toh get shut down regardless of the content if they don't bring in TRPs. Pakistani dramas, mercifully, don't suffer the same fate. Kaisa bhi show ho..it always finishes its run.
