shah jaan was super cruel...n his son aurangzeb super duper cruel...!!!

Yes brought a few books on Mughals- Peackock throne by Abraham Eraly and another by some John in that they mention the only Mughal emperor not to kill his sibling/relatives to come on throne was jehangir. Other interesting facts are also given. please read it if you can get those books. That is why that book deduced he was better mughal. Humayun,. Jehangir and Dara sukoh are named as moderate and good mughals. Book mentions that if dara sukoh had become emperor after shah jahan britishers could not have ruled us for 150 years and we would have been always independent.
I think somewhere Akbar-jodha's bringing up had gone wrong else jehangir would not be the way he was. He displayed good character in forgiving all nobels and even family members who sided with khusrau in rebellion. So he was not completely cruel cruel. Similarly i do not blame only parents but jehangir for cultivating bad friends who misguided him and himself for being so impatient for throne to rebel(though many historians say he did it because of meherunissa and anarkali's lve being snatched from him as youth). And biggest error ever trusting nur jahan and her family to run empire in his illness.

exactly...we cant blame salim alone...things got screwed up after Nur Jahan's entry ...i read that MUZ was a very righteous women...as i said though salim must have loved ruqaiya and salima but he has MUZ's genesπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰...he was a fair king...he loved his brothers and their children...
In between Ruqaiya must be cursing herself for bringing up and nurturing MR. devil Shah Jahan...😑

History has many loopholes, only major events are recorded. A common affectionate bond between mother and son would not be seen as a significant event to narrate.
So, in short, there is nothing to say that Jodha and Salim were not close.

Jodha had always stood by Akbar. She supported him in every decision he took. Even after death, she is the only wife who is nearest to Akbar's tomb. Salim was a famed warrior but a drunk and easily influenced as seen later with Nur Jehan. His parents must have been very strict with him. Atleast Hira must have been, as he was spoiled silly by the harem ladies and intially, Akbar as well. It is bound to happen that he will develop some antagonistic feelings against the stricter parent.

Later in his succession to throne, he murdered Abul Fazl, who was Akbar's best friend. Her neice commited suicide and her grandson was blinded by Salim. Salim even went on to degrade Man Singh's position in court as he suspected him of supporting Khusrau during the rebellion, which was later restored. The mother-son relationship must have frosty for a while. But probably the frost started to wane off with time when Jehangir took the throne.

One can never be sure about their relation as he didn't even bother to attend his own mother's funeral. Probably it was the work of Nur Jehan. Jehangir was a good and intelligent man but ultimately unfit to be the king. He was so easily swayed by Nur Jehan. His son Khusrau was seen as a better successor. Even Akbar wanted Khusrau to take the throne. During most of his reign, Nur Jehan and son Khurram took care of the imperial affairs.

The reason Akbar and Jehangirnama don't mention much of Akbar's and Jehangir's female gang is because of religious bigotism. Not only the names of Hindu wives and mothers been omitted but to make this omission less conspicuous, they have removed the importance and names of other ladies as well. Or probably they just resented the amount of power women had during both of these men's reign. In Akbar's it was Maham and Mariam-makani in his intial years, and maybe later Jodha. And in Jehangir's time, it was Nur Jehan. What all we know about Nur's power has been documented in accounts of foreign travellers that came to Mughal court. They are much better sources than what we have available in the country, i think.

according to the books i read on mughal history (as im preparing for competitive exams ) i can give u the following info:
1 for ur question on why it was not mentioned about wives and their relations in akbarnama and jahangirnama like im babarnama here is the answer : babarnama was written by babar himself but thats not the case in akbarnama as we know akbar is an illiterate and some of his court poer wrote it and it is obvious that he will write what he knows and that too in favour of the ruler whatever may be the truth be.. and jahangirnama was written by his sister and so she will also have infor about the family and she can write it which was not possible in akbar's time..

2 it is true that jodhaa was give in marriage to save his kingdom by his father and that was most common in those days and infact not just jodhaa some history books says that even jahangir married a rajput princess and that was arranged by jodhaa herself and the bride was some of her relative too... i dont know how much this is true or not but some books claim so..

3. regarding the connection between jodha and salim i dont think it can be anyless just because it is not mentioned in any book.. ruqaiya and salima may be close to him as salim was the heir of akbar and that too after along wait so its obvious that everyone will love him and respect and take care of him..as some one mentioned if he was not attached to his mom why will construct monuments on her name..

and most important thing all the books mostly give about the conquests and wars waged by akbar and about his rule and policies of his time and not about his personal life as in the lost of his life right from the age of 9 he was always involved in wars and expansion of kingdom.. he occupied almost all of India except some parts if south..

he is the best ruler of mughals who established a great empire and great value to it in the history of india. the value was the same till the reign of aurangazeb and it collapsed after him due to absence of an efficient ruler...
and coming to dara shukov who is the elder son of shah jahan was never a king as he was killed by aurangazeb even before he was a ruler and he took the thrown.. aurangazeb killed his siblings and imprisoned his father and took the throne..
