Alright. So, this particular story is a straightforward one. A woman was accused of attempted murder and exiled. Years later, her daughter comes in the city to prove her innocence and convict the real villains. Simple, isn't it?

Now the backstory first... FL's mother was framed because she had enemies in two fields, love/marriage and business. First, she was set to marry the Duke who is the second most powerful person in the empire after the Emperor. And second, she was an exceptional dress designer and was about to open her own dress designing studio and her competitor knew that her business will be ruined if she starts her own business. So, she conspired with the woman who wanted to marry the Duke and framed her for attempted murder. The Duke who had actually slept with her and got her pregnant claimed that he "couldn't help her because all proofs were against her" and so she was exiled. The love rival married the Duke and the business rival stole her dress designs and became the most famous dress designer. She gave birth to the FL and revealed the entire story when she grew up. So, the FL decided to go to the capital to prove her mother's innocence.

All this was good. The hatred comes from the side of the MLs.

There were originally 3 MLs; let us say A, B and C. Out of them, C was a good choice because he was her childhood friend and stuck with her even when the entire city was against her for being the daughter of a criminal/villainess. He even went through great lengths to help her reach the capital and face the people there. He even agreed to pretend to be her servant/attendant/butler so that nobody realises her true identity as she was faking her identity to investigate. But he realised early on that she won't see him as anything else except her childhood bestie so, he backed off.

So, now we have A and B. Out of them, B is the best because he went through great lengths to help her gather proof, escape the traps set by the real villains unscathed and reach great heights in terms of her talent in dress designing. He helps her out at every step and even goes against his own family when they try to harm the FL thinking that since she is the daughter of a villainess she will be just like her mother. He is her biggest support system against the real villains and against the rest of the world too.

On the other hand, A is just a spineless coward who can't even stand up to his mother and refuse engagement with a girl he doesn't even like. I mean he literally sees her as a sister and his mother got him engaged to her. He can't even tell his fiancee that he doesn't love her and doesn't want to get married to her and sees her only as a sister. (Or course they aren't siblings). Throughout the story, he stays around the FL but he is never there for her at the time of need. Every time she needs help, B is there with her but A is like "I am sorry you had to face all this alone".

And she chooses A in the end as her husband!!! And the most hurtful point is that she was aware of B's feelings all along but kept him strung with her by not rejecting him clearly.

I so want to curse the writer for this thing!! Both mother and daughter fell in love with spineless cowards who were absolute losers.

Honestly, I have nothing to add here.

It's simply disappointing. smiley7 smiley7 smiley7 If I didn't know it was a book, I'd say it's your regular ITV show. smiley12

You see, I totally agree with your first statement. The basic premise of the novel is Jayna's revenge so the writer gave the utmost importance to that. But what I disliked is that sometimes when they introduce a romantic angle just for the heck of it, it rather degrades the quality of the fiction. Personally, I would have preferred the ML and the fiance to be good friends with Jayna rather than this forced love triangle. This has always been my issue with Naruto as well but we'll talk about that some other day. smiley16

Now where I disagree a bit is that there was no way for the fiance to be united with Jayna because of the political background. As cliche as it is, there have been many novels and movies where heroes have gone against their families to ensure justice.

So I believe it has more to do with the writer not focusing on the romantic aspect and highlighting Jayna's journey.

That is where the main issue arises... They just didn't introduce the romantic angle for the heck of it. I mean the entire story is around 200 chapters and there wasn't even a hint of romance till 150 of them. Imagine!! The romantic angle was so rushed here that I can't even describe...

Now coming to the ML and the fiance being good friends with Jayna...

The ML and fiance couldn't have been friends in any case... At least not before the ML became the Emperor. Because the fiance comes from the faction of nobility that supports the Empress and in turn her son aka the second prince. And remember, we are talking about historical times here. Had the fiance been friends with the ML, his entire family and territory would have landed in trouble with the Empress and her kin. They were literally standing on opposite sides. And the ML was just gathering allies and power and he wasn't powerful enough to protect the fiance and his family, especially when their main enemy had allies capable of using magic.

Then, the ML was actually introduced as a best friend of Jayna. Since she had to keep up an act of the innocent, angel who was being deceived by Angela in front of her other friends, she had no one with whom she could be her real self. Her friends saw her as a kind-hearted person who was willing to do anything for the daughter of the man who saved her father's life. Her friends at the clinic saw her as a hardworking lady who just wanted to help the poor and needy. The ML was the only other person with whom she could be her real self, discuss her problems and act however she wished without putting up a mask. There was implicit trust between them where they could simply lay their true selves bare in front of each other. Their friendship was built beautifully in the story.

With regards to the fiance... There were two things happening. She tried rekindling her relationship with him but that didn't work because each time she was alone with him, she could only remember how he betrayed her. With him it was harder to bear with because she had trusted him completely in her past life and it was his betrayal that drove her over the edge and she ended up losing it. Then she even tried to be friends with him and their friendship was slowly getting on track but then, his mother unilaterally decided to end all ties with Jayna and her family because of them being in opposing factions. Jayna too realised that them being friends would land both the families in trouble and while they might be able to save themselves with the help of the first prince, her ex's family won't be able to save themselves because the prince won't be able to save them because the fiance's family didn't trust him.

Yes, they did become friends again in the end once the ML was crowned the Emperor.

Also, here the political climate was dangerous. He could have gone against his family and sided with the FL but again, he wasn't depicted as the confrontational type. That is why Jayna first doubted that her fiance was mind controlled in the past life because he was a person who wouldn't even raise his voice even if he were angry. Besides while Jayna agreed to break off the engagement because one, they were on opposite sides and his mother sent the document regarding the annulment of the engagement and two, she still hadn't gotten over that trauma; her fiance believed that Jayna agreed to break the engagement because she was no longer in love with him. So, he decided to simply let her go and dedicate his loyalty to her.

Also, after the engagement got called off, many things happened one after another and she did not have the proper frame of mind for a long time to go and have a proper comforting chat with her ex.

Rest, like I said, the writer did not write the romance part in a proper way. It was as if the romance was added later on because the writer simply wanted Jayna to have a decent marriage candidate in the future. This part was a completely shoddy writing at its best. Which is why, I mainly talk about the complex characters and their situations rather than the romance. (In fact, the story would have been nice even without the romance being added).

I know!! I was so damn pissed off here...

I mean the ML was such a spineless coward that he confessed his feelings for the FL to his fiancee when she caught him fantasizing about her. And even then, he simply expressed his feelings causing her to have a heartbreak but still, he did not have the guts to speak up in front of his mother and break off the engagement. I mean the dude is like "I have only seen you as my sister BUT since my mother got us engaged, I can't tell her to break off the engagement even though I can't love you ever." smiley35

Yeah, I too read the article... And if I am not wrong, her character actually entered the show today. Just for her sake (and of course for the sake of the memories of our Darling Dillu) I too am thinking of checking it out..

Also, I really really need to tell you about a batshit insane FL that I came across today... smiley15

Well, based on your entire analysis, I guess you are right. In this universe, Jayna couldn't end up with the fiance. And also the forced romance and all...

But that was exactly my point, to begin with. smiley39 That ultimately it depends on the writer's vision. From a third person's POV, I felt bad for the fiance when I was considering the romantic aspect. Now I know the story never was too much focused on romance. But if romance was an integral part and the writer wanted them together, then he could and would have changed a major chunk of the narration like his character, the political stuff, and all, and then it would be justified.

Right now, I agree, set in this particular premise they didn't have a shot together.

As for the second novel - it's disappointing and I don't think we have much to discuss on that.

As for the second novel - it's disappointing and I don't think we have much to discuss on that.

Honestly, there was a note at the end of the novel by the writer... She had actually initially planned to bring in another ML and keep the prince as her best friend but then she ended up writing a couple of twists and as we say na "flow flow mein kahaani ka direction hi badal gaya."

I mean after the engagement was called off, she initially had a plan to have the FL at least maintain a friendship with her ex and have a bff relationship with the ML. But then, she wrote two particular twists: Jayna finding out that the Empress was actually from the enemy kingdom and wanted to bring their country down and it's downfall began with her usurping the millitary power by bringing Jayna's family to ruin. Next, she found out that the Empress' brother is involved in slave trading and in order to prove him guilty by collecting proof, they had to work hard. Then, the ML had requested her support as his nanny who had taken care of him since childhood (and poisoned him too after being threatened by the Empress) had committed suicide and he was feeling lonely as there was no one to support him. So, in the midst, she didn't get time to actually think of how to revive her friendship with her ex. After this, the beginning of the romance was introduced with Jayna having different kind of "feelings" for the ML and realising that her feelings for him have surpassed the category of "best friend" and so on... The ML already had feelings for her since he saw her helping the poor but as he believed that he was about to die in a year, he was content with being her best friend. Rest is the usual....

Frankly speaking, romance is actually this particular writer's weak point... I have come across a few of her stories (but they didn't interest me much so I didn't read those) and in each of them, romance is always the weak link.

About the second story... I don't want to discuss it. I am just venting out my frustration because I actually picked it up thinking it will be a nice revenge drama but it turned out to be like that.

Okay so there are two FLs actually who are crazy... I will talk about the first one now.

So, this is a story about an orphan getting adopted by a Duke. The Duke has a reputation of being cold hearted and it is famously known in the empire that the moment a child meets his eye, they just end up getting scared and crying. This is because their family is blessed by special powers which they have named as "The Beast's fangs". It is actually an overpowering magic that instils an instinctual fear response. The FL is the only one who was able to look into his eye bravely. He later realised that the FL actually carries his family's genes and is actually his niece, the daughter of his sister who eloped with her lover.

Now, the FL is crazy in several ways...

First, after getting adopted she informs the Duke that the orphanage where she was kept was a hub of corruption. The Dean of the orphanage along with his employees actually stole all the money that was sent for the kids living there. They were even planning to sell a few girls to brothels for a large amount of gold. When the Duke asks if he should kill everyone there as a punishment, his secretary tries to stop him saying that one shouldn't say such things in front of kids as they get scared. But instead of getting scared, the FL is like: "Don't kill them because killing them will be an easy solution. Instead you should torture them to such an extent that they should beg you for death as a way to save themselves from the torture." She then proceeds to list gruesome ways to torture them which includes putting their hands and feet in boiling oil, cutting off their fingers, ears and nose and so on. smiley39

She absolutely does not take any bullshit from anyone and unlike other FLs, isn't kind at all to those who hurt her and her family and friends. In fact, she returns each and every insult back to them hundred-fold.

Another time was also an interesting one. Since the Duke adopted her, rumours spread around that she is actually his illegitimate daughter. And the tutor arranged for her was bullying her by spewing underhanded comments of how she will always remain a low-born and so on. She literally went on a rampage after holding it in for quite long. In retaliation, the Duke kicked her out of his dukedom after severely punishing her.

Also, both father-daughter duo are sassy as hell. Example in one scene where the maid gets her dressed up nicely, he jokingly says "you're still ugly despite this dress" and she literally replies "blame your own gene for that as I am your sister's daughter." smiley36

I am just at the beginning but every chapter has me laughing like crazy...

Tomorrow I'll tell you about the actual batshit crazy FL... I am off to sleep right now and it will be quite a long essay so I'll post it tomorrow.

Well, lately I feel people think romance is too easy to write - Maggie noodles ki tarah bas daal do and it'll work. On the contrary, a good love story requires a lot of work - even if it's darn simple.

But then again, our type of readers are in minority. So...
