We hope the discussion in this thread introduces you to new authors and books to add to your TBR list. Whether you’re a fan of psychological mind games, high-stakes conspiracies, or heart-pounding action, there’s a thriller out there for you. Keep the conversation going by sharing your own favorites and discoveries!

Genre of the Week will be launched every week on Saturdays, 10 AM IST.

The Thread will be pinned for that week.

The following Saturday will have a new GOTW, however this thread will stay open for as long as people keep posting in it.

Happy reading, and may your next thriller be as gripping as the last!

Note: Chatting is ok, as long as it's related to Thriller books but do keep all other chatter to the minimum or you can always move it to the CC Thread.

You can follow the format below (but it's not mandatory)

Book Rating: Out of 5 based on your reading experience

You can rate the MCs and the writing separately, if you'd like to!

Synopsis or Book blurb:

You can mark it as 'Matured Post' if the book has triggers/ adult content that need a warning.

If you'd rather not get into this long-winded essay writing type of assignment, you can just leave a short review &/or recommendation 🙈

When did you start reading thrillers and what was your first book in this genre?

I only started reading thrillers two years ago and the first book I ever read in the genre was The One by John Marrs. It was very popular at the time and I think there was a show based on it too, but I didn't enjoy reading the book. As in I thought it deserved negative stars! But now that I've delved into the genre a bit more, I think maybe I want to re-read it to understand why I didn't like it. All I remember is thinking that this is one of the most boring books I've ever read.

What are your favorite thriller books (share a review if you'd like)?

Not really my favourite book, more like my favourite series - Mindf*ck by S.T. Abby. This was also my first introduction to dark romance, although I didn't really love the romance aspect of the series. Still a five star read for me!

What are your favorite thriller tropes?

[Psychological mind games, Cat-and-mouse chase, Conspiracy theories, Race against time, Undercover operations, Revenge, Survival, etc.]

I think I really like revenge stories, like, true female rage! Not really conspiracy theories but more like, stories of someone wrongfully accused and how their innocence is proven - great mystery elements! (Is this more of a sub-genre? I can't tell.)

What elements do you think make a thriller truly gripping?

I think a mystery element really helps to create intrigue in a thriller. One of my favourite aspects of the Mindf*ck series was Lana's backstory, I thought the suspense surrounding the mystery that was Lana Myers was so well done and it's one of the main things that kept interested and had me pulling an all-nighter to read the entire series.

Share some thriller books in your TBR list.

I'm listening to the Good Girl's Guide To Murder right now and I'm really liking it! I also have One of Us Is Lying on my list (I have been meaning to read it ever since I saw the trailer for the TV show years ago!).

Other Books:

If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio - This has been circling around booktube and booktok and a lot of other bookish platforms for a couple years now, so I feel like this could be the year I actually read it.

Tender Beasts by Liselle Sambury - I'm a sucker for a pretty cover! Also the premise of it surrounding a sibling dynamic and someone wrongfully accused of murder seemed intriguing.

The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson - She's known pretty well for the thriller genre and people have been recommending her to me for a while now.

The Centre by Ayesha Manazir Siddiqi - I found out about this book last year through a book club on Instragram, but I never ended up getting around to it. I think this is one of those books that you read just because it features one of your special interests; my degree was all about translation and languages, and in general learning languages has always come easily to me and it's something that I really enjoy, so this book being about languages and also taking place in different cities all over the world was something that interested me.

Death Followed Us by K.D. Edin - I believe this book is written by a debut author, but I could be wrong. I kept finding reels about this book on Instagram and figured that was a sign to get my hands on it.

Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda - This book scares me just a little because it's supposedly more on the literary fiction side and I love literary fiction, but something about the idea of it being incorporated into a thriller doesn't sound right to me. I heard someone say that this book is for people who like vampires and have mommy issues, which is honestly a great selling point. smiley36

Hide and Seeker by Daka Hermon - This book intrigues me solely because it's a middle-grade book and I've never seen a middle-grade book in this genre before.

What was the last 5-star thriller book you read?

🤣 Cool okay!

I haven't read this series. Can you give a blurb and/or a spoiler free review?

I am a huge fan of detective thrillers and psychological thrillers 😍. Last thriller I read was White Space by Ilsa J. Bick.

(I'll give a detailed review when I have a better internet connection)
