Maybe AB Sr didn't participate in that atyachaar. But can the same be said of MIL & SIL?
Problem is upbringing
Ash is brought up in a matriarchal culture of mangalore/south india wich is very liberal towards woman and gives them equal rights as boys or sons in many homes
AB Jr is brought up in UP/Bihar style of upbringing where man is superior to woman or wife at home and wife follows hubby and in laws commands
AB Sr looks very UP/Bihar patriarch type not the liberal father/father in law to Ash or Shwetha
How they married Shwetha at 21-22 without a career etc no independence to divorce etc now shes at mercy of parents
Ash left parents home to stay separately when they opposed her BF salman
Ash brought up more like USA woman with freedom and independence and liberal minded by family
It will be tough to live in UP/Bihar family for south girls especially manglorean/kerala matriarchal brought up women
It is a clash of culture no matter how traditional Ash behaves or dresses in public but values/morals/way of living etc will be diff
When your parents brought up up equal to son or brother gave you education freedom for work and travel all over world and enjoy and make own decisions than suddenly no freedom no career for everything you need permission from in laws hubby even for kissing scene must be tough
One reason why ppl marry in own caste/religion/state similiar ppl is easy to adjust as similar up bringing and values beliefs etc
May be if ash married a south indian especially mangloreans she would have much more freedom and a long lasting career etc and less in laws or hubby interfere in work which would make her happy and reflect on her face and actions
How AB family treated Shwetha was a red flag to what was to come to Ash or even navya in future
Shweta did attend Boston University.
They married her off early but that was not uncommon at that time,
Looks wise or charm or appeal wise she was desperately lacking. She looks 10 times better now... So show biz was out of the question.
Why is she not independent now? What's stopping her?
And I don't think her daughter will follow her footsteps, she will be a career woman(and she has the looks too, thanks to her father)
Btw South India is no less in patriarchy except for Kerala. And recently learned Mangalore too
AB sr's Mom Teji was no ordinary woman, she was a social activist, and much more than that
She was college educated even then and taught at college
Yes she became a home maker after marriage, looking after kids while her husband was away and busy but she was not home bound
From Wiki:
'She retained her love of the stage, and she would also sing at social gatherings
Even in social engagements, the poet Harivansh Bachchan willingly played a minor role to his sociable wife.
His parents were a part of India's literary circuit and high society. The couple sang at events.
Teji played Lady Macbeth in her husband's Hindi adaptation of Macbeth. They also played a cameo appearance in Yash Chopra's 1976 film, Kabhi Kabhie.
She was also appointed as one of the Directors of the Film Finance Corporation in 1973.'
Not sure if all of this would've happened if ABsr's father and his family was drenched in patriarchy
I'll tell you what annoying habit of his bothers me.
Whenever a contestant did win a decent amount of money on KBC, like ten lakhs or even one lakh and most of them were from lower middle class or middle class family, he would ask them something like "Ek Laakh Kabhi dekha hain zindagi mein apne?"
It sounded so condescending coming from him.
Hope he has stopped doing that, haven't watched recent episodes...

If they were as patriarchal as it's been made out, they would have made Abhishek marry a simple, rich girl. They were very happy with him marrying a known actress and were even going to Cannes and supporting her make-up modeling career by walking the red carpet with her.
The loony Ambanis have released their wedding documentary from Jamnagar and there was a clip floating around where Abhishek, Ash and Aaradhya were sitting together and looking at each other and dancing in their chairs.
People go through up and downs have issues but it doesn't necessarily mean the end of the world either. Aish fans are making the situation worse with their constant fantasies when they don't even know what really happened on the inside.
There IS some riff between them.
I feel it's between the women of the family, (if Shweta hadn't moved with them, maybe things would've been better) and men got caught in the middle. Maybe ABjr didn't take his wife's side, He leaves her in the lurch in public, wouldn't be surprised if he's even more unsupportive of her at home too
Three of them spotted ar Airport last month, with serious expressions. Just the three were on vacation? Or did they go to sell some overseas property?

P.S Is it hard for the media to find out if they live in same house or not?
