The most surprising detail from the latest pre-wedding ceremony of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant is that the billionaire family rented out the entire Portofino bay, blocking access to all the tourist attractions in the area for the common folks.
This is the first time the Portofino bay has been closed down completely for the common people and only being accessed by billionaires and his guests. Pointing out the same, one Italian user on X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote, “Many other celebrities and billionaires have celebrated in Portofino, none of them have ever removed access to the main point for others.”
Another user wrote, “Many billionaires have come to party here, but no one has ever taken away access to the main part of the city. Who do they think they are? They can’t just come in and throw their party and make it difficult for people to do their daily chores.”
One more Italian user displayed similar sentiment and said, “The beauty of Portofino must be shared with everyone, not just those who can afford to rent it. Disappointed that access was limited to locals and tourists, we weren’t even allowed to get close.”
“I couldn’t see the main attractions of Portofino this weekend due to a private event organized by an Indian or Pakistani billionaire for his fat son. There have been many events hosted by billionaires in the past, but none have ever closed,” wrote a different user. One more wrote, “As a local tour guide in Portofino, it is disheartening to see our city closed for a private event. Our livelihood depends on tourism and this weekend was a huge setback.”
Not every Italian was angry about the Amabani pre-wedding. In the comments section of the aforementioned post, some even defended Ambanis while questioning the authorities who allowed the billionaire to shut down significant areas of Portofino for a private party.
