Year 1997 was more promising than the past year 1996.

The biggest hit turned out to be Yash Chopra's DTPH which took both Madhuri and Srk out of their bad year 1996 where they have not delivered a single hit. 1996 broke Madhuri's consistent hit record of 8 years from 1988-1995 and Srk's 4 years record from 1992-1995, the year 1997 bailed out both of them and was a sigh of relief for their fans.

DTPH was a very modern looking film unlike whatever has been released in 90s decade so far.

1997 was the debut of Miss World Aishwara Rai from Aur pyar ho gaya, although the movie bombed at the boxoffice and Ash's acting and dialogue delivery was criticized a lot, though she appeared as much beautiful in motion as in print, which turned out to be a plus point for her.

1997 gave Pooja Bhatt her first block buster in form of Border, her role was the meatiest among all of the actresses with maximum screen time, but OfCourse the real heroes were the male leads.

1997 further cemented the HIT and beloved jodi of Amir-Juhi after Qayatmat se qayamat tak and Hum hain rahi pyar ke, in form of Ishq.

1997 DELIVERED ONE OF THE BEST MASTER PIECES OF HINDI CINEMA, "TAMANNA" a movie which is beyond any competition and polling list. One of the finest performances of Pooja Bhatt & Paresh Rawal and also Manoj Bajpaye.

1998 also delivered the first art movie of Madhuri Dixit Mrityu Dand.

Raveena continued her hit run with Ziddi, but that bubbliness and charisma was lost somewhere with her depression (due to Akshay) and weight loss which was her USP from 1991 to 1995.

1997 was shockingly and suddenly turned out to be the last prominent commercial year for Juhi Chawla when she got married all of a sudden to Jay Mehta, although there were few releases afterwards but 1997 was the last year for her real stints in Bollywood and she stopped signing more movies, which was shocking to many, as she gave a STRIG OF HITS in 1997 with Deewana Mastana, mr & mrs khiladi and Yes Boss.

Govinda-Karishma continued with their comical hits with Hero No 1, although it was their last year as Raveena took over Karishma's place from 1998 aftrewards with Govinda in his comical movies.

Kajol surprised many with her negative role in Gupt, everyone was expecting it to be Manisha with her maniac demeanor, Kajol came across a shocking yet pleasant surprise.

1997 was the year for the dreamy debut of Subhash Ghai's sensational discovery Mahima Chaudhry with the hit Pardes.

Chachi 420 was a surprise hit by Kamal Haasan.

The hit Virasat proven the acting prowess of both Anil and Tabu once again.

Although Nana Patekar's Yeshwant was a flop but was a critically acclaimed movie.

Saunjay dutt and hit jodi of Saudagar film Manisha koirala and Vivek Mushran's ambitious project, but late release of 1993 Sanam finally released in the year 1997 and bombed very badly at the boxoffice.

Akshay Khanna debuted with Himalya Putra which turned out to be an average grosser, but his acting and personality was praised by many.

Ghulam e Mustafa cemented Raveena's position well as a serious actress despite with limited screen time, it was one of Nana Patekar's best as well, and was released along with DTPH.

Salamn Khan further proven his great comic timings after Andaz apna apna in his first ever double role in hit film Judwaa.

AND LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST, 1997 was proven to be the YEAR OF JUDAAI with the hit Judaai for everyone's beloved, the last female super star (along with Madhuri Dixit) of Hindi Cinema Sridevi, who left Bollywood after a pan India historical innings.

Judaai also cemented Urmila's position who acted really well opposite the seasoned Anil Kapoor and Sridevi.

Please note the movies in the polling options are the top 10 grosser of the year, despite few others were better in quality, but are mentioned in the special mentions list below.

Which one from the polling options is your favorite movie from the year 1997.

Some great movies 1997 had.

I voted for Border coz that movie makes me cry. Sunny did a great job. Sandese aate hai is entire childhood rolled into bucket of tears.

P.S. β€” Last I voted was for 1994 movies. I missed 95 & 96. Could you send me link if the voting is still open? Thanks.

1997 is my favorite year from the 90s. So many amazing films in a single year.

Border is one of the best war/army films from Bollywood till date.

And, I agree DTPH was very modern looking, and its music was an instant hit, and having an audio cassette of DTPH was a must. (per my elder siblings)πŸ˜† Karisma stole the show.

NOTHING can beat the masterpiece TAMANNA from 1997.

LOVED Pooja Bhatt and Paresh Rawal in it.

Just because of the box-office business I could not include it in the polling options 😭

amazing soulful heart touching songs as well.

IF U STILL HAVE NOT WATCHED IT YET 😲 do yourself a favor and do not miss this legit masterpiece, it's a true story, the first day profit was given to the Tiku hijda and Tamanna for her marriage from Mahesh Bhatt.

Tamanna is truly a classic, underrated masterpiece from the 90s. It is also one of the best 'social' films from BW ever.

Kudos to Paresh Rawal and the whole team for portraying Tiku like a human being.

The hijra community is mistreated, mis-represented and mis-understrood. They deserve all Human rights as much as others.

Tamanna was progressive and thought-provoking film like came out in unlike that joke of a film like Laxmi Bomb in 2020.
