It's visibly selective though...Ganesh Chaturthi thread got locked in no time. Not fair!😆

P.S. I was just increasing my thread count.

Appears they took 'Agar main mod hota/hoti' seriously except the banning members part...

No amount of arguments will ever make me agree for absolute FOE. I stand by my view and quite firm on that. I am saying so we don’t go in circles and waste our time.

I agree. Freedom of speech or expression cannot be absolute and there's a visible need for reasonable restrictions. Moreover, FOE doesn't necessarily mean freedom from the consequences. Other individuals have the right to react.

I remember some stampede incidents that occurred due to false rumours of short circuits and bridge collapses. Needless to say, such things must have consequences.

Upon reflecting, I have come to accept that Vir Das made one huge factual error in his monologue. I don't think there are only two Indias. I think there are 27,102 India's (+/- 20,000 ish)

What respect will anybody have for our country, when our own country people insult India.

It's a disgrace.

What’s wrong in sharing the truth?

Trust and respect are the issues here. Your fellow humans deserve the same trust and respect you give yourself not to indulge in criminality. It is their right as sentient beings.

Therefore, freedom of speech has to be absolute or it is not free speech at all. Anything else is just control by an entity (government) which presumes itself superior.

That's why the difference between speech and violence is so important to clarify. Because anything that directly causes violence is incitement and criminal. Actual violence is criminal. Mere hate speech is not.

I would give my values to my kids and trust them not to misuse their privilege.

America was founded on the principle of free speech. It has been the most successful democratic experiment in human history despite all its faults. I would not want to change the free speech aspect of it.

India is also supposed to have free speech. I hope they stay on the same path and not go the way of the Middle East and Pakistan where even expressing lack of faith in a religion can get you arrested.

Anyway, as you said, no point in going around in circles. So ciao.

We don’t live in an ideal world. What you are saying is ideal scenario.

People don’t understand as simple as “Save Water”. And you are talking about making them understand difference between hate speech and violence. Things are very delicate in Social media era.

Every country has room for improvement

issues such as rape happen everywhere including MEDCs like the USA

I do not disagree with everything he says but it's wrong to put your country down on a global platform. it can instigate Americans/ others to put India down further
