Anyone else who finds this movie extremely disturbing?
I first watched this movie back when I was a child and it gave me nightmares. I watch it back as an adult and it's still so disturbing. It messes up with mind in a way like I can't take it out of my head.
First of all, seeing an actor like Govinda who mostly played a goofball in comedy movies back then, was playing a psycho villain here. It was tough to digest such a drastic change in his image.
Then this movie also had some really violent scenes which were not at all pleasing to the eyes. I've watched slasher films made in Hollywood, and I have always found all that actually funny. But here the violent scenes were not at all like an eyewash and are shot with the purpose to disturb the audience. Few examples like when Govinda is killing the main villain in the forest is really scary and cruel the way it's shot.
Also the scene where all of his family is killed by the villagers, and Govinda later on arrives to find someone's broken leg which turned out to be his father's. Then there's a scene where a baby is taken by a cheetah at the start of the film.
Along with it, the tragic backstory of Govinda where we're shown how cruelly his family including his little sisters get murdered by the villagers, which is revealed during the climax is heart wrenching. I'm just dealing with the shock of this reveal, and they show Govinda commiting suicide just after that and the movie ends leaving me speechless (not in a good way).
Shikari's story is not new. It is like Govinda's Baazigar but it's more intense, dark and disturbing and not at all entertaining, along with so many plotholes. No wonder it flopped at the box office.
