Have you read "The Atlantic"'s deep dive into the spread of fake news on whatsapp in India? Tech companies cannot begin to understand how to counter the deliberate misinformation and disinformation campaigns being conducted in an attempt to influence the elections. It was also the front-page story on the NYTimes. So acting like this is not part of a widespread issue is delusional at best and dishonest at worst. Certain people are playing the politics of resentment. Don't help them.

I am a Hindu and I am proud of my religion, but I am also aware that like every religion it has needed reform. I don't need to pretend everything is perfect in India to be considered appropriately patriotic. And yes, obviously, Islam needs reform too. But since India is a majority-Hindu country, Hinduism is in focus here. Just like Christianity is in focus in the U.S.. But no one is stopping you from critiquing Islam. This thread is full of such posts. And honestly, I don't want my religion to become something people are scared to question. That was never the essence of Hinduism. The Vedas say "if you believe in one God, you are a Hindu. If you believe in a thousand Gods, you are a Hindu. If you don't believe in God, you are a Hindu." Where is the room for blind faith here?

I am well aware of the fact that despite Hindus worshipping Goddesses, that respect doesn't always translates to respect of women in real life, and these social evils need to be discussed and eradicated. I have absolutely no problems with that, my problem is with Shabana communalising this issue by targetting Hindus only, a running theme amongst Indian leftists circles who blame Hindus/Hinduism for all the faults of society, while turning a blind eye to the violence and intolerance perpertuated by minorities.
