'Taare Zameen Par' loses out on Oscar glory By Sampurn, 14 January, 2009 | |
AR Rahman might have made India proud with a Golden Globe award. But 2007's acclaimed 'Taare Zameen Par' hasn't been so lucky at the 81st Academy Awards. The film directed by Aamir Khan has failed to make it to the list of the nine films shortlisted in the foreign language film category. In the past movies like 'Mother India', 'Salaam Bombay' and 'Lagaan' have made it to the nominations list. The nine shortlisted films include French Cannes winner 'The Class' and Golden globe winner 'Waltz' with 'Bashir' from Israel. The ones selected from amongst the 65 choices will now go for the next round of voting. The selection committees in New York and Los Angeles will then pick five nominees from among them. The winner will be declared on February 22. There were many who hoped that this simple film about a boy and his teacher would make it to the Oscars at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. 'Taare Zameen Par' written by Amol Gupte and director actor Aamir Khan is about a child's battle with dyslexia and how a sensitive teacher helps him out of the situation. Mr. Perfectionist must be pretty disappointed about the whole thing. Better luck next time, Aamir Khan. |
