Sweet Love

Part One

It was a quiet afternoon. Rey and Taani were busy with their own work. One month had passed since their wedding. It was an arranged marriage, so both kept distance from each other and respected each others privacy. To the world they were an example of a perfect couple. But at home they were, no no, they behaved as complete strangers.

The secret lies here. Both knew each other as they were in the same college, but had never interacted with each other as their courses were different and had never crossed paths in college. Yet Taani knew of Rey as he was the best dancer in their college and had won many trophies and titles. Every girl in the college (including Taani) was mad behind him. But he liked only one girl whom no one knew. That girl was Taani. Taani was the brightest student in the college and had always won all the quizzes and competitions. He was always fond of her but never had he spoken to her as he worried the consequences of her rejecting him; only if he knew...

So where was I, ya, the noon was quiet which was awaken by the loud ring of the door bell.

Taani went and opened the door. She was surprised to see her in-laws on the door. She greeted them in and called Rey to the hall.

"Mom! dad! What a pleasant surprise!" said Rey hugging his parents.

"We were going past here so thought of visiting you two. Hope we didn't disturb you?" said Mrs. Singhania.

"No mom, not at all" replied Taani with a smile.

"I have an important meeting to attend. Will meet you guys for dinner" said Mr. Singhania and took leave.

"Meetings!" said both, mother and son, and shared a laugh.

"What were you two up to?" inquired Mrs. Singhania.

"Nothing mom just work" replied Rey casually.

"Ya just work" added Taani.

"Taani dear I can understand your work but what about you Rey, what were you working on?" she asked.

"I was working on our next dance project. It's gonna be really interesting!" said Rey happiness visible on his face when he spoke of dance.

"You and your dance! Anyways Taani dear how is your business going? If you have any doubts feel free to ask me as your husband is of no use!" she said giving a wicked smile to Rey.

"No mom!" Taani instantly replied which confused Mrs. Singhania as well as Rey. To clear their confusion she added, "I meant Rey does helps me sometimes. But if I need any sort of help I'll surely ask you."

"That's like a good girl!" said Mrs. Singhania.

All smiled. Rey engrossed himself in the TV while Taani went in the kitchen to cook some snacks. After cooking she got them to the dinning table and called the both of them.

"Taani you are a wonderful cook dear!" said Mrs. Singhania.

"Thank you mom!" thanked Taani with a huge smile.

"Mom you haven't had much. Wait till dinner, you wont leave from here!" said Rey very proudly.

Taani loved this compliment from Rey which got a faint blush on her cheeks which was noticed by Rey.

"Unfortunately I will have to leave" she said.

"Why?" asked Rey ans Taani together.

"If you two don't get time together how am I supposed to be promoted to granny" she said giggling.

Rey and Taani felt awkward. Since the time of marriage they had never come to this topic. In fact they had never even shared a bed. Both loved each other immensely but never spoke of it.

To avoid any further awkwardness Rey said, "Taani will you please get some water from inside"

Taani nodded and instantly left.

Rey turned to his mom and said, "mom what was that? Why are you creating awkward situations? You know none of us is ready for a child, still you are.."

"Sorry for that. I thought you two" apologized Mrs. Singhania but was cut mid-sentence by Rey.

"Whatever you thought don't let it out again. I don't want to take any step without her permission!" said Rey.

Taani who was in the kitchen heard their conversation. She felt happy knowing the fact that Rey cared about her feelings. Unknowingly a smile crept on her face.

Later she cooked dinner for all. Mr. Singhania returned home for dinner. All of them loved her cooking and praised her. Rey felt proud of his wife. He thought of confessing his love to her. But the afternoon's incident ringed an alarm in his mind. He thought, 'What if she thinks I'm saying all this just to..no Rey! You have to suppress your feelings'

Mrs. Singhania brought him back from his thoughts.

"Rey Taani, we both will leave now" she said.

"Mom it's late, why don't you stay back?" suggested Taani.

"No Taani. We don't want to interfere in your privacy. We promise to come soon." said Mr. Singhania.

Rey and Taani looked at each other when he said privacy. It was evident that both wanted to divert the topic.

"Okay dad. Come soon to visit" said Rey.

Mr. and Mrs. Singhania soon left. Rey and Taani were alone in the house. Taani switched on the television. There was a dance program being aired. Rey got stuck to it and so did Taani.

After an hour or so the television went off all of a sudden and the lights started flickering and then went of leaving behind pure darkness. Taani, hell scared of darkness, hugged Rey tightly. Even in the absence of electricity, a 440 volt current ran through his spine. He held her tightly and assured her that he is there to protect her. She buried her head in his chest trying to escape from the darkness. Rey took her on the terrace. It was a full moon night and the moon lighted the terrace.

Rey slowly pulled her away from him in an attempt to break the hug.

"Rey please don't leave me" she said her voice shaking.

"Taani don't be afraid, I'm just by your side. Open your eyes" said Rey assuring her.

She slowly opened her eyes and found him by her side. She smiled at him while tears trickled down her cheeks.

"Taani stop crying" said Rey and wiped her tears.

"Rey I'm really afraid of dark" said Taani.

Rey just hug her and she hugged him back.

They both sat in the same position for a long time. Rey slowly got up and went to the edge of the terrace. Taani followed him.

"Our lives are so complicated! When we have time we hesitate and then we lose the opportunity forever. But only a few people are lucky enough to get back the same time in their lives again. But still the hesitation continues!" said Rey staring into the dark.

Taani came next to him and asked, "Whats the matter Rey? You look disturbed"

"Nothing Taani" he said avoiding.

"Rey you can speak to me. I'm your wife." she said.

The next moment he was hugging her.

"Rey?" she asked confused by his action.

"Taani I can't keep quiet anymore. I have to say it today else I'll never be able to say this again" he said.

"Rey please tell me. You are somewhat scaring me!" she said.

"Taani I Love You!" he said this and stared at her to see her response.

He expected that she will move back or something of that sort but was surprised when he hugged him, very tightly this time!

"Rey tell me that you actually said what I wanted to hear from college days" she said still hugging.

"No!" he said.

She immediately broke the hug and looked at him.

"I said what I wanted to say from college days!" he said.

She looked at him totally shocked.

"It means.." she tried saying but Rey completed for her, "It means we both loved each other since college days but were idiots not to confess!" and gave a sweet smile.

She smiled back at him and said "I Love You too Rey"

The moon too smiled seeing the two and bestowed their lives with brightness...
