It was a bright, sunny morning at Khurana Mansion. There was a hustle and bustle all around as servants rushed to complete the tasks given by their master. The mansion was decorated beautifully, like a bride, with orchid flowers and lights. Savitri Devi was busy instructing the servants, anxiously preparing to welcome her beloved grandson.

The entire Khurana family was eagerly anticipating his arrival, as he was coming back after six months of completing a business project in London. His flight had already landed at the airport, and he was expected to arrive at the mansion any time soon.

Here she is, wearing the finest saree given by Dadimaa and helping with the preparations to welcome her favorite grandson. Though she is just a maid like the other servants, she has dressed up as Dadimaa instructed. Every servant in the house is dressed their best, as it reflects the Khurana family's respect and prestige. They are one of the wealthiest families in Delhi.

Dadimaa has given her one of her old sarees to wear for this occasion, as she didn’t have one herself. How could she? She is one of the poorest individuals on earth. She has no one except her alcoholic father and stepmother, who beat her brutally every day, showing no concern for her well-being—even though she is her stepdaughter...while her step brother has his dirty eyes on her.

Her mother sent her here to earn money and send it back home, but she hasn’t received a single penny. Her only guardian is Dadimaa, whom she deeply respects. Dadimaa insisted that she call her "Dadimaa" despite protests from other family members. She loves her so much, but she still doesn't understand why this old lady, whom everyone else despises—including her own father—showers her with such affection. Her father hasn’t come to her rescue when her so-called brother gives her dirty looks or comes close with inappropriate intentions. In a world where a father is supposed to protect his daughter, her own father can’t even manage himself.

Dadimaa was ready to give her a new saree and jewelry, but she hesitated to accept such generosity from her employer. The family also protests Dadimaa’s generosity towards her, questioning why she should receive so much when she is only a maid in the house.
