Chapter Thirteen
As Khushi was reeled into the operation theatre to get sutured he heard the faintest sound of her voice, he couldn't quite make out what she mumbled but that faint murmur ignited his very heart, bringing it back to life from the depths of disparity.
The theatre doors closed and he was left on the other side to wait. Slowly everyone else arrived, the Raizada's and the Gupta's. A while later the police arrived too, to take the statements of the victim and the eye witnesses, but Arnav was in no mood of their, or anyone's questions and left the party to pray their prayers and deal with the police outside the theatre.
He had his sight set on only one place and he let his feet guide the way to the hospital Mandir. As he stood in front of the Goddess, a hurt Khushi's voice echoed inside his head:
There will come a day when you will realise everything that has happened, everything that you have done, written for yourself, DM had actually held your hand and written it with you...but when that day comes I won't be there with you...
How right Khushi had been. She had been right every time and he had mistaken her and caused her infinite amounts of pain for it. Why had he done all the things he had done to Khushi, why was it so hard for him to act on his feelings and just love her and trust her the way he wanted to...why?
Because you're afraid...afraid of love...afraid to love...afraid of its intensity and how it makes you feel...afraid of losing your love and so you shy away from it...
The answer came from within...from the fifteen year old boy...from Arnav Malik who Arnav had met on the top of his staircase today. The answer was him, the boy, Arnav Malik who had lost so much that fateful day that he was now afraid to even feel that way and that's why...that is why he had created the concrete wall of Arnav Singh Raizada around him to stop anyone from entering and making him that vulnerable and fearful again. But Khushi had come like a hurricane into his life and smashed that wall to smithereens, reaching the core, Arnav Malik, and making him hers. And now he was nothing...nothing without her...like Di had said he would find it difficult to breathe without her...but no she had been wrong...for the mere thought of her being taken away from him suffocated him and left him lifeless, a pitiful shell that represented the mighty ASR.
As the events of the past two days and even the past months toiled on his already grieving mind, Arnav began to shake and came down to his knees in front of the beautiful Goddess.
'I'm sorry...so sorry for turning my back on you, for not respecting you, for mocking you...I was wrong so very wrong, but you...you never turned your back on me and never stopped looking out for me, always sent people in my life to protect me from myself...Di, Nani, and then the most beautiful and precious gift and being of all Khushi...your daughter Khushi...you gave her to me...and what did I do...I rebuked her, taunted her, tortured her, trying to make her break...but you and she never gave up on me, you both still came back to me and took care of me...why? why did you do all this...I didn't deserve it...I don't deserve it...I don't deserve her...she deserves someone so much better...but...but...but now I can't live without her she...she is my life now...I need her...so please...please...please save her...keep your protective hand over her...please...you saved her from that horrendous creature so please revive her and bring her back to me...I know...I know I don't deserve her and if...if...if she doesn't want me in her life I will remove myself from it but please please save her...give me the chance to redeem myself, in front of you and in front of her...please.'
He had slumped to the floor by now, completely broken in front of DM.

His shaking had stopped, but his head was still cradled between his knees when Anjali found him. A silent tear fell from her eyes when she discovered that Arnav, her chotey had not only entered the Mandir but had gone in side it and prayed to DM on his own accord. Another reason to thank Khushi ji for. Her deeds of selflessness had been piling lately on the Raizada's and especially on Anjali, they were so many things they needed to thank Khushi for but had not, due to their Raizada pride and ego...but things were going to change now...she was going to see to it. Khushi ji would be given her rightful place and respect that every Raizada member deserved, and not just that she would be given her rightful place as the eldest daughter-in-law of the Raizada family a respect and title they had 'given' but not truly let her have when Arnav and she had eloped. But that was all history now and this time when Khushi ji stepped into Shantivan she would be given her due.
Coming to this conclusion Anjali wiped away her tears and approached Arnav. She placed her hand lovingly on his shoulder and whispered, 'Chotey...Chotey its okay now, Khushi ji is in recovery. They will soon move her to a room and there you will be able to see her too.'
At the sound of his Di's voice he wiped away his tears and looked at her, but before he could ask his question Anjali answered him, for she had read it in his eyes.
'She is fine. The doctors say that she fainted due to heavy blood loss and shock. The knife pierced her flesh but thankfully didn't reach any of her vital organs and so she is safe and out of danger, and should wake up in about an hour or so, for she is still under anaesthesia and then they also gave her a sedative so that she can rest. But we can see her and sit by her once she is moved to her private room.'
As her words sunk in, relief spread through his system, they had conquered the worst, death. Now it was a time to seek forgiveness and redeem himself and he would not hesitate in doing that. He wiped away the last of his tears and slowly got up to leave the Mandir and make his way back to west wing of the hospital where his Khushi lay, recovering from an injury that he was yet again responsible for.
As they began to leave the Mandir, Arnav stopped at the threshold to give one last look at the Goddess before him, and gave a small smile as he thanked her in his heart for making Khushi's injury minimal; well her physical injuries minimal, for the emotional damage that he had caused her would take a long while to heal.
