Chapter 5
Part 5A
'Taqdeer ne kahin likha na ho zindagi main koi toofan, pyar se hi beethe Humari Daastan'
Arnav's reaction to seeing his home after so many years brought tears to Khushi's eyes and just as one pearl of emotion rolled down Khushi's cheek, it fell into Arnav's outstretched hand. Khushi turned towards Arnav and saw him shake his head slightly and just smile. He then took her hand and they both made their way to the front door.
As they both came to a stop, the heavy oak doors opened as if right on cue. Arnav's eyes welled up as he saw his mother dressed in a deep purple sari that he had sent her a few months ago. Arnav's mother - Savita, took in the sight of her young son standing before her after three excrutiatingly long years and also could not stop the moist pools of emotions from forming in her eyes.
Arnav and Khushi both stepped forward as Arnav proceeded to seek his mother's blessings by touching her feet. Savita smiled and ran her hand lovingly through her son's hair and blessed him from the bottom of her heart. Arnav then surprised Savita by engulfing her in a massive hug.
'Aapki bahut yaad ayi Ma.' Arnav said, his voice thick with emotion.
Savita smiled and tightened her hold on her son,
'Yaad toh mujhe bhi bahut ayi Arnav. Par ab tu aagaye hain na, ab mein tujhe kahin nahi jaane doongi - samjhe?'
'Mein toh pehle bhi nahin jaana chahta tha Ma.' Arnav said looking straight into his mother's eyes.
A guilty expression took over Savita's face as she tenderly stroked Arnav's right cheek,
'Jaanti hoon beta, main jaanti hoon.'
Just then Savita saw Khushi bend down to touch her feet. Savita immediately pursed her lips and grabbed Khushi by the shoulders before she could reach her feet.
'Maine tujhse kitni baar bola hai, beti pair nahi choothi!'
Khushi smiled and held onto Savita's hand,
'Kya betiyon ko aashirwaad ki zarurat nahi hoti Ma?'
Savita smiled before lovingly placing her hand on Khushi's head,
'Ma ka aashirwaad humesha beti ke saath hota hai. Maangne ki zarurat nahi hoti. Aur maangna hi hai toh gale lag kar mangna theek hai!'
Both women laughed ad hugged each other as Arnav looked on - his face a picture of bliss as he saw the heart warming interaction between Khushi and his mother.
Just as he was about to tease the two, his Mami's voice came floating through the hallway.
'Arre Arnav beta! Tum aagaya!' His Mami screamed and pushed past Khushi to trap Arnav in a hug.
Arnav grimaced and cheekily replied,
'Mami, main yahan karah hoon toh aagaya hoon na? Yeh kaisa savaal hua?'
Everyone laughed at Arnav's cheeky retort and his Mami lightly smacked his arm before going to stand by Savita.
'Chalo chalo Arnav andar aajao ab. Apna daiyaan per pehle rakna.'
Savita then turned to Khushi and said,
'Khushi tu bhi Arnav ke saath andar aa.'
'Arre Didi, kyun apshagun ko nyota de rahi hain aap? Khushi apna daiyaan per pehle toh nahi rak sakti na.' Mami exclaimed, her voice conveying her deep dislike for Khushi.
Arnav and his mother immediately looked at his Mami - or Manorma. Anger immediately taking over both their expressions.
'Manorma!' Savita scolded.
'Didi - maine kuch jhoot toh nahi kaha na? Arnav beta itne dinon baad lauta hai. Aisa mauke par kuch ooch neech na ho isliye maine-'
'Mami please. Kuch mat kahiye. Khushi kabhi bhi, kisi bhi tarah mere liye apshagun nahi ho sakti.' Arnav said, rage dripping from his every word.
Meanwhile Khushi had been looking towards the ground, wishing that the tears that had pooled in her eyes would not fall. Just as she felt the tears threaten to run down her cheeks, she felt Arnav's hand grab her arm.
