Part 4 - Mehendi

After the dinner post their haldi ceremony, as they all got up to depart, and said goodnight to each other,

Devika, who was looking at the day's photos, suddenly spoke..

Devika: "Areee ek minute ruko.. mujhe kuch puchna hai"

Everyone:"Kya?"

Anu saw that she had a naughty glint in her eyes and knew that this was going to be some new scheme to embarrass her or Anuj.. so she tried to stop her saying that everyone was tired and they'd talk the next day..but Devika didn't budge..

Devika:"Ye photo dekho sab.. yahaan Anu ki kamar pe haldi lagi hui hai.. aur kisike haath ka nishaan hai.. par jahan tak mujhe yaad hai.. hum me se kisine toh Anu ki kamar pe haldi nahi lagayi thi.. toh phir ye...."

She pretended to ask innocently.

Seeing Anu blush heavily and look at her hands..and Anuj look down and scratch his neck.. she continued..

Devika:" Ooooooo.. main toh bhul hi gayi thi.. yahaan ek haldi celebration hua tha.. par andar room me bhi toh celebration hua hoga naaa.. tab hi lagi thi ye haldi.."

Anu and Anuj's expressions confirmed that what she was saying was correct.. and everyone started cheering and hooting..

Mukku:" Bhai.. main aapko samajh ti thi utne bholuram ho nahi aap.. I'm proud of you"

After some more teasings.. they all said goodbye to each other.. Anu kissed Samar, Kinjal, Mukku and Devika good night..

And waved to Anuj.. saying..

Anu: "Jinke ishq ka rang hai humpar aisa chada

jo kabhi na utrega

Jinka naam hai dil pe humaare aisa likha,

jo kabhi na mitega

Jab Kal mehendi se likhwaungi unka naam apne haatho par,

Toh duniya ke har gulaab se laal, humaare pyaar ka gehra rang khil kar aayega

Kal humaari mehendi par milenge Anuj.. goodnight!"

Anuj was ecstatic.. this was the second time she had written a shayri for him.. the first was on Valentine's....

He was in a daze when he said Goodnight to Anu and everyone else, and changed into his nightclothes and went to bed..

And then texted Anu..

Their chat read..

Anuj: Bohot smart ho aap to-be Mrs.Anupama Kapadia

Anu: Kyu to-be Mr. Anupama Joshi ji

Anuj: Mujhe goodnight kiss dene se bach jao isiliye mujhe shayri suna di.. ispe toh main naraaz bhi nahi ho sakta..itna accha surprise jo diya tumne mujhe

Anu: 😂😂

Anuj: Accha suno na.. ab toh goodnight kiss dedo na Anu.. please 🥺🥺 kitna tadpaogi ab apne aashiq ko

Anu: Shaadi ke baad... roz milega🙈

Anuj: Sacchiiii????? I can't wait.. ek kaam karte hain.. kal bhaag ke Mandir me shaadi kar lenge.. pleaseeeee

Anu: Anuj bas do din intezaar kar lijiye na.. phir aapke aur mere, hum dono ke saare sapne sach hojayenge

Anuj: Yaar.. 26 saal intezaar hi toh kiya hai.. ab 2 din aur sahi.. par shaadi ke baad koi bahana nahi chalega.. hmm?

Anu: ☺🙈 Theek hai.. ab so jaiye aur mujhe bhi sone dijiye

(Chat ended)

Blushing and smiling as she laid out her mehendi outfit for the next morning, she spoke

Anu:"Taiyyar rahiyega mere bholuram, kal aapko bohot saare surprise milne waale hai"

And went to sleep.. as usual dreaming about her shayar kapadia

The next morning, everyone gathered in Anu's apartment, including Anuj, who was looking extremely handsome in a green kurta, with slight embroidery on the collar and pocket.. while Anu was looking gorgeous in a green saree to match him, wearing a deep necked, embroidered blouse.. she didn't wear any jewelry on her hands, as she had to apply mehendi, she was wearing a kundan necklace, studs and mangtika..

And Anuj remembered how she justified his shayri- unki saadgi me husn hai , unke husn me hai saadgi..

Everyone asked the couple to get seated first, as the mehendi artists arrived..

Anuj:" Nahi.. main mehendi nahi lagwaunga"

Mukku:"Arre par bhai aapne hi toh kaha tha mujhe bhi Anu ke naam ki mehendi lagwaani hai"

Anuj:"Haan lagwaani toh hai.. mera matlab hai main abhi mehendi nahi lagwaunga.."

GK:"Kyu.. dulha hai toh tere itne nakhre hum sab maanenge aisa mat soch.. chal mehendi lagwa.."

Anuj:" Nahi GK woh... woh..."

Anu:" Kya hua Anuj.. kyun nahi lagwaani aapko abhi mehendi"

Anuj:" Woh Anu.. woh jab ladies haatho mein mehendi lagati hai toh unke pati unhe apne haatho se khaana khilate haina.. main woh miss nahi karna chahta 🥺🥺 please"

Anu's heart had already melted at his love and cuteness.. but she still tried once more..

Anu:" Par phir aapko mehendi kon lagayega"

Anuj:" Tum ho na.. tum laga dena.. jab tumhari mehendi sukh jaaye uske baad.."

Anu agrees

Mukku:" Par bhai.. jo bhi karna ho woh jaldi karna.. maine aap dono ke liye ek surprise plan kiya hai shaam ko 7 baje.. usse pehle aap dono ki mehendi sukh jaani chahiye.."

Anu had an idea..

Anu:"Anuj, abhi 8 baj rahe hain..  ek kaam karte hain, pehle main abhi aapko mehendi laga deti hu, toh lunchtime se pehle aapki mehendi sukh jaayegi.. tab tak meri mehendi bhi lag jaayegi.. toh tab aap mujhe khaana khila dijiyega.. aur phir 5 baje tak meri mehendi bhi sukh jaayegi.. aur phir hum tayyar hojayenge.. 7 baje se pehle.."

Everyone agreed that this was a good plan..

Anuj:" Chalo anu, tum mujhe mehendi laga do.."

Anu:" haan par meri ek shart hai.. ki jab tak meri mehendi sukh nahi jaati aap usse mahi dekhenge.. aur sukhne ke baad main usko sirf Anuj ke saamne nikalungi.. sabse pehle unhe dikhaungi.."

Everyone agreed..

Anu and Anuj sat down on the specially decorated couch under the small stage kinda thing created by the kids by using colourful dupattas..

Anuj:" Anu, mere dono haatho me apni pasand ki mehendi lagao, bas usme tumhaara naam hona chahiye.. aur chupa ke nahi, ekdum aasani se dikh jaye waise likhna..ok?"

Anu nodded...

Anu:" Par aasani se dikh jaaye aise kyu"

Anuj cupped her face and looked into her eyes..

Anuj:" Taaki main sabko dikha saku ki Anu meri hai.. iss duniya ki sabse khubsurat ladki ab meri hai.. aur main toh humesha se hi sirf uska tha.."

Anu was speechless, yet again.. and began to apply mehendi on his hands..

On his left palm, she drew a bride holding a varmala, and under it, she wrote anupama.. and said..

Anu:" Main apne right palm pe varamala waala dulha banwaungi, aur uske neeche Anuj  likhwaungi.. toh jab hum dono apne haath ek saath rakhenge.. toh mere haath waala dulha aur aapke haath waali dulhan.. dono ek dusre ko varmala pehenate hue dikhenge.."

Anuj smiled at the thoughtful idea.. and nodded..

Anu then drew a heart on his right palm, and wrote #maan inside it

Anuj, who was smiling throughout, as his Anu was sitting next to him and holding his hands for so long.. now gave her a wide smile blew a kiss in the air

Anu quickly looked around, and satisfied that

nobody had seen him do that glared at him

And got up

And asked the mehendi artist to draw a dulha in her hand and write Anuj's name..

Once that was done, she told her what to do on the other hand too.. but that, she hid from everyone else.. as it was a surprise for her Anuj..

All the other girls -

Devika, Mukku, Dolly, Meenu and even Anu's mom, after being forced by Anu had applied mehendi on their hands.. and now everyone was dancing happily..

Mukku:"Bhaaiiiii aap wahan kya kar rahe ho.. chalo na dance karo"

Anuj(midlessly): "Apni Anu ko dekh raha hun"

Everyone:"AWWWWWWWWW"

Anu is embarrassed and glares at him..

And he gestures sorry.. he didn't do it intentionally .. and makes puppy eyes

Anu forgives him and blushes..he looks so cute.. how could she not..

Devika:"Arre gadhe.. ab Anu teri college crush nahi.. hone waali biwi hai.. tu usko dur se kyu dekh raha hai.. uske saath aake dance karna.."

And they all have a great time enjoying together..

When they're all tired, they sit to have food..

Anuj's mehendi had dried, and he had peeled off the dry mehendi.. it looked beautiful, a dark reddish brown shade.. and as promised, sat beside Anu, to feed her..

Her brother fed her mom

GK fed Mukku

Sanjay fed Dolly and Meenu

Samar fed Kinjal

Bapuji: "Devika, jaise Anu meri beti hai.. tu bhi toh meri beti jaisi hi hai.. chal main tujhe khilata hun..."

Anuj fed Anu each bite with utmost love, occasionally grazing his finger over Anu's lips.. causing a havoc in her senses.. he so enjoyed doing this to his Anu.. he loved when he had that kind of effect on her.. and as they were with family.. she couldn't say anything to him.. she would never admit it.. but she enjoyed this teasing too 😋

After lunch..

Devika:"Anu, khaana kaisa tha?"

Anu:"Bohot bohot accha tha"

Devika:"Accha chal ye bata.. khaane me tha kya?"

Anu was silent.. she realised she didn't know what she'd had for lunch.. as she was looking at Anuj all the time..

She bit her tongue.. and started stammering..

Samar:" Mummy.. ye kya... aapko ye kaise yaad nahi hai ki aapne 10 min pehle kya khaya.."

Before she could think of a sensible answer.. Devika butted in

Devika:" Hota hai aisa.. jab khaane se zyada khilaane waale par dhyaan ho toh aisa hi hota hai.." and she burst out laughing.. and the others did too..

Anu:"Chup karne Devika kya kuch bhi bolti rehti hai"

Kinjal/Dolly: Par mummy/bhabhi woh baat toh sahi keh rahi hai😂😂

Anu:"Aisa kuch nahi hai"

Anuj:" Accha.. toh batao na Anu tumhaara dhyaan kahaan tha"

Anu looked at him angrily.. and knew he was soon going to have a live demonstration of her skills with her belan..

GK:" ab bas.. kitna pareshan karega tu meri bacchi ko haan"

Anuj:" Arre GK aap toh meri side ho na aap Anu ki side kyu le rahe ho.."

GK:" abse main sirf teri nahi.. Anu ki bhi mummy hu.. kyu Anu beta"

She smiled and nodded...

Anu:" Anuj chaliye kamre me.."

Anuj, now scared:"Kyu"

Anu:" Mujhe aapko apne haath saaf karke dikhaana hai"

Anuj:" Anu yaar main toh mazaak kar raha thi.. itni si baat pe violent kon hota hai"

Anu, confused:"Kya bol rahe hain aap?"

Anuj:"Sahi toh keh raha hoon.. tum mujhe sabke saamne maar nahi sakti isiliye andar jaake akele me.."

Anu:" Anooooj aap kya keh rahe hain main toh mehendi saaf karke aapko dikhane ki baat kar rahi aap kya kuch bhi sochte rehte hain.. main aapko kyu maarungi.. maarna toh chodo maine aaj tak kabhi aapko daata hai.. boliye.. boliye ne.."

Anuj stood there.. wondering what to say next to calm his lioness down.. and everyone burst out laughing

Mukku:" Aap dono itne cute kyuuu ho yaaarrrr.. ab jao.. aur Anu jaldi se bhai ko apni mehendi dikha do.. aur ready hojana phir aap dono.. 2 ghante me hume nikalna hai.. apne romance ke chakkar me mera surprise bhul mat jaana.."

And they both go inside Anu's room..

Anu:"Aap aankhe bandh kijiye"

Anuj obliges

Anu opens her palms and removes the dry flakes of mehendi.. and shows them to him..

Anu:"Anuj aankhe kholiye"

Anuj  opened his eyes saw what was written on the palm.. and instantly rubbed his eyes.. and opened them again slowly.. pinched himself.. and kept staring at Anu in disbelief...

Sorry for leaving it here.. but thoda suspense toh banta haina.. this is gonna be something huge for Anuj.. let's see if y'all can guess what it is..
