"You do feel disappointed" - Pravishi Das on minimal screentime in 'Made in Heaven 2' playing Tara's sister

In an exclusive conversation with us, we asked her about multiple things, ranging from being concerned about minimal screen time in the show to dream roles or dream directors she wants to work with and if she would love to play central characters.

Pravishi Das

As an actor, Pravishi Das continues to be a part of projects that have made an impact in one way or another. From playing pivotal characters in films like Rang De Basanti to the latest one being Chup Revenge of the Artist, Das has managed to carve out quite a career so far.

Having played yet another important role in Made in Heaven Season 2 recently, she is currently riding high on the success and praise that she has attained. She played the role of Tara's sister in the show's second season, and even though she had limited screen time, it was vital to Tara's (Sobhita Dhulipala) character arc.

In an exclusive conversation with us, we asked her about multiple things, ranging from being concerned about minimal screen time in the show to dream roles or dream directors she wants to work with and if she would love to play central characters.

Q: Were you afraid of having minimal screen time in MIH Season 2?

Afraid is not the right word; you do feel disappointed. The truth is I had a chat with the casting department and shared my reservations; I'm only too grateful they convinced me. I have to say I wasn't aware of the scope of this character or its potential impact. As Tara's sister, she has a distinctly carved-out personality and place in the story. So, the real temptation at that point was simply to work with excellent directors.

Q: Having done so many roles and appearances in films and now web shows, do you yearn to have a character that is more central to the plot? If so, which would be the ideal role for you?

Absolutely. My holy trinity is Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet! Anything they have ever touched is right for me (laughs). Anything written by Juhi Chaturvedi is a delight. I've watched Piku a million times; Deepika Padukone smashed it out of the park in that one. The Nancy Meyers filmmaking universe is my happy place. Chitrangada's character in the Sudhir Mishra film, "Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi". Kavita Chaudhary in Udaan inspired generations. The list is long; you need to stop me! Characters written for men tend to interest me more. I wonder sometimes, what if Hamlet was a woman? I have actually played Adolf Hitler on stage in a production of Bertolt Brecht's The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui.

Q: What is your dream role or dream director to work with?

How could it possibly be just one! There are far too many characters in this world to explore. The fascination lies in the countless stories there are to tell and the many points of view from which to tell them. The point of being an actor is to be versatile and plentiful in everything you can embody, isn't it ?! Narrowing it down to one sort of defeats the purpose for me. I'd love to work again with the directors I've already worked with; having said that, a dream director, to my mind, is someone who can re-imagine you. Conceive yourself in roles and characters others can't.
