'It's an outwardly solemn role but great fun,' Rajit Kapur, who plays Khwaja Ahmed in the children's film 'Kalpvriksh' directed by Manika Sharma, told IANS.
'I've never done a children's film before. It's got lots of animation and the kids are hugely talented,' confessed the talented actor, last seen as Konkona Sen Sharma's self-serving husband in the thriller 'Deadline'.
Apart from this, Rajit refuses to reveal much about the film.
He said: 'It goes into areas of our life that question our conscience vis-a-vis the communal divide and the accompanying prejudices. This is the kind of project I believe in.'
This isn't the first time that Rajit is playing a Muslim character. The fact is that he is so fluent in Urdu and so Nawab-like in his on-screen demeanour that he's often mistaken for a Muslim in real life.
'Yeah, I guess I've played a Muslim in Shyam Benegal's films like 'Mammo' and 'Sardari Begum'. In fact, I play a character caught in a communal divide in Haroon Raashied's 'Khuda Hafiz',' said Rajit who played Karisma Kapoor's son in 'Zubeidaa'.
He is also working on a film that revolves around news headlines.
'It's a film entitled 'Breaking News' by N. Chandra and hold your breath... for the first time I play a sleazy, flashy, vulgar contractor named Talreja.'
Married to Sarika in the film, Rajit's character hits on young Smiley Suri, who made her debut in 'Kalyug', a poor hapless employee in the builder's office.
'She's just one of his victims. I've never played anyone so cheesy in my life. It required all my acting efforts to build the builder's character.'
