Read on.
Looks like you have got a thing for supernatural thrillers. First Kavach and now Qayamat Ki Raat.
Kavach and Qayamat Ki Raat actually don't fall into the same genre. Kavach was a super natural show while Qayamat Ki Raat is a fantasy thriller. The audience needs variety and if we look at shows abroad, there is variety in terms of content for the viewers to choose from and so why shouldn't it be the same for our Indian audience. Qayamat Ki Raat is different because we really haven't had many fantasy shows in India, which makes it very unique. Fantasy as a genre is artistic and more of a play on imagination, which makes it very different from many other genres such as love stories or mythological shows for example.
Tell us something about the show and your character as the promos don't really give away much.
Raj has just returned from the US and is a very laid back kind-of guy. He is an entrepreneur who has a small business in the US. He is a very practical, pragmatic, family oriented guy who is an Indian at heart, even though he's living abroad. Raj has come to India to say no to an arranged marriage setup which his family wants for him and the story proceeds from there.
Why choose Qayamat Ki Raat as your comeback post Kavach?
I was waiting for the right project and when Qayamat Ki Raat came to me I saw it as a challenge. We haven't had many fantasy thrillers in India and that in itself made it exciting. Plus, working with Balaji is like coming back home.
Also, like Kavach, Qayamat Ki Raat will also be a finite series. Is picking finite series a deliberate decision?
Yes, Qayamat Ki Raat is a finite series. I prefer finite shows because you know how long the journey is for and usually with finite shows, there's less digression when it comes to the story line. Finite shows are usually pre-written and hence as an actor, you know how your graph is going to be and hence so you get the liberty to shape your character.
The special effects are being talked about much. Whereas, most of Ekta's initial shows have been slammed for their bad VFX.
I'm glad that people are liking the VFX from the promos they have seen. Like I mentioned earlier, fantasy as a genre remains extremely unexplored in India and hence this show will have a lot of VFX, which the audience hasn't seen earlier on Indian Television.
Lastly, how has it been working with Karishma Tanna?
Its been great! She's a fun person to be around and our energies match quite well!
Qayamat Ki Raat will unveil the journey of Thakur and Shekhawat families in the backdrop of the state of UP and will also mark the comeback of veteran actor Apara Mehta on Star Plus after more than a decade.
Introducing television's most unnerving villain, the Tantrik-turned-Rakshas, played by Nirbhay Wadhwa, stands out as a never seen before evil - a demon who lusts for power and immortality and is out to gain vengeance for his death and become invincible on an eventful night. Once his Sar, Haath and Dhad unite the viewers will be in for a bloodcurdling journey with the eeriest monster coming alive on 'Qayamat Ki Raat' on Indian television.
Speaking about the show, Ekta Kapoor was quoted as saying,"Qayamat Ki Raat is a show which presents the story of a spine chilling TANTRIK on television. It's a fresh story about human emotions being tested when faced with supernatural forces. The unexplored folklore of 'Tantrik Kabhi Martein Nahin' becomes the terrifying nightmare of the lead couple in this story. The Tantrik's look itself has been worked upon for months with detailed prosthetics unlike anything else seen on television. The story will keep viewers hooked with a never seen before horrific villain and the unique lead pairing of Karishma Tanna and Vivek Dahiya.
The show will go on air from the 23rd of this month.
