Vishal Gandhi: Meet is doing good but honestly speaking, TRPs are not in our hands

Vishal Gandhi, who is currently seen in Zee TV show Meet got back to work after a gap of 5 years, with his last show as the lead being Tamanna. The actor has had a roller coaster of a journey in the last couple of years, and was waiting for the right script to come him way, and that's when Meet was offered to him.

India Forums got talking to Vishal about what was it like to be back on the screens after such a long time, working Meet and the on-set energy, and more. Read the conversation here.

What is the most difficult thing as an actor when returning to the screens after a long time?

Not difficult, it is like returning home after a long gap. It is just you have new family members and you have to cope up with them. It just takes a couple of days and then you are used to it. The sets have always been my second home and I love being in front of the camera, so that's excitement and no difficulties there.

As someone who has been around for just enough, how do you look at your struggles and the journey you've had so far?

It has been 10 years since I have been in this industry and I knew what I was getting into, this was my dream, I knew there will be struggles and it wouldn't be hunky dory but an actor's life is insecure, there are a few who get to work 365 days. When I see my journey, I would say I am lucky to get what I have wanted to and I am sure I will have a beautiful journey ahead.

What is it like working on Meet, and what's the energy like on sets?

I joined the cast mid way, almost after like 3-4 months, and it took me a couple of days to know them and get used to them, I met Ashi and Shagun before, and then we went outdoors, and the entire unit I met 15-20 days after I start shooting. It is a total dhamaal on sets and this is how you enjoy working also, when you know the give and take is good, so there's that in performances also, and there's a comfort level with everyone. I am blessed that the energy is completely positive on the sets.

Though widely popular with fans, Meet does not have strong numbers, but does that bother you?

That's right, Meet is really doing good, but honestly speaking, TRPs are not in our hands. I don't know how it works and how it goes up and goes down, or what are the parameters for that, but we keep saying that Holi was there so it went up and another reason why it went up. But the current track was good and yet, the TRPs did go down, so I don't know what factors into it. Honestly, as an actor, it feels good when your show is doing good and the numbers are good, but it doesn't matter to me because I give my 100%, and when numbers go down, it does bother me, but that doesn't change my efforts. I keep working hard, seeing the numbers motivates me and if the numbers are high then you have to sustain that and work harder.

What is the kind of work you are looking at doing ahead?

I have not explored much on the OTT platform and I would love to do some strong roles there, and films too, every actor's dream is to work there. But OTT is coming up with great content plus limited episodes too, the start to end is right in front of you. Like a Franco Path or a tough police inspector, or an obsessive lover, or an out and out negative character, that would be the kind of role I would look forward to. And of course, TV is my first love, so anything on TV as well.
