Vijay Varma expressed his concerns about the perception of his negative roles affecting how people view him in real life. At the grand launch of SCREEN in Mumbai on Friday, he shared that “pretty girls and their mothers” have admitted to being frightened of him, which has made him uncomfortable. Recognized for his villainous performances in Darlings, Pink, and the OTT series Dahaad, Vijay noted that his portrayal of these “diabolical men” began with Pink. He reminisced about how that role, despite being minor, made a significant impression, particularly during an all-women screening where he met actresses he had long admired.
He said, “Lots of pretty girls and their mothers have told me they are scared of me, and it did bother me. The introduction of extremely diabolical men that I played started with Pink. It was a minor part, but I remember it vividly because it was an all-women screening. All the actresses were present, and I recall seeing people I had only watched on screen before.”
Vijay Varma shared his experience of meeting singer Sunidhi Chauhan at the Pink screening. He mentioned that after the film, some attendees were in tears. “Before the screening, everyone was happy, but by the end, some were crying and some didn’t want to leave. I tried to console Sunidhi Chauhan, but she told me, ‘Don’t come near me. I’m very scared of you.’ I was like, ‘Oh my god, what just happened?’ Then the director pulled me aside and told me I did a good job.”
Surprised by the response, he reflects on the influence his performances can have. Despite this unsettling feedback, Vijay mentioned that he has aimed to reshape his on-screen identity through varied roles in projects like 'IC 814:
